Focus On Furniture 5 year extra cover for accidental damage

Today I took up the Focus on 15 percent off store wide deal.. Being the ozbargainer that I am I tried to squeeze a few more dollars of the price for a couch they had today.. They didn't budge :(… I still went ahead with a purchase… But I am deciding (over night) about whether to also get the uniters extra cover for 5 years that they offer.. It costs 199 bucks extra… It "allegedly" covers for 5 years accidental damage lke spillage of coffee and damage caused by pets (Cats) etc etc… This is what the salesmen has told me.. I then went looking for information on the company uniters & suffice to say they have a huge behemoth of bad reviews where they offer this same type of service in North America.. Seems to be alot of "gotchas" in the conditions such as you must tell them within 10 days of an issue occurring and if its a stain you must be able to tell them exactly what caused it etc…

That is howwver in North America.. I cannot find any reviews with them in Australia.. Has anybody paid the money for this extra cover & had to actually use it in Australia? For me the idea of spilling a coffee that leaves a stain being covered sounds great.. Hypothetically they would come out and if they can't get it out you would get a new seat cover.. Similarly if a cat clawed the side of it that would also be covered… But given the appauling reviews of Uniters, I am hesitant to fork out the money for this…

Once again, has anybody paid for this & actually needed to use it here in Australia??

  • Look at the term and conditions?

    • I plan to get that tomorrow… But just wanted to know if anyone has purchased it and has actually called upon it for accidental damage.. From everything I've read in North America this company seems to go the extra mile to get out of having to actually fix anything..

  • sounds like one of those cover/insurance that electronic store try to sell to their customer. More often than not the terms and conditions are tricky to deal with and does not give the value it pereives to give. So i would becareful and read through the terms and condition before paying.

  • +3

These accidental damage cover are scams, you are better off putting the money towards contents insurance.

    • Thanks for your advice… I think you are spot on with your suggestion…

  • Nope. I'm fairly sure it doesn't cover HUGE damage that they can claim is deliberate, and anything small than that would cost you less to have a cleaner come in and steam/dry clean it.
