The Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive Professional Diver 1000m is the world’s first solar-powered watch capable of saturation diving – and the Japanese brand’s second 1,000-meter diver.
The Promaster Eco-Drive Professional Diver 1000m (Reference BN7020-09E) was one of three major Promaster additions introduced in Basel this year and, thanks to its uncompromising look and a 52.5-mm-large and 22.2- mm-thick titanium case, also the one that undoubtedly stood out the most. Perhaps more importantly, it’s one of the few watches that rightfully fall into the category of 'extreme dive watches'. In other words, it’s a contemporary tool watch. Its primary function is to withstand even extremes of pressure and to safely measure elapsed time under water, even for saturation divers, and definitely not to fit under a French cuff dress shirt.

Wait you are not WatchNerd, not even PJC or MathNerd

Ssshhh! No need to tell everybody.

      • yes, tell them and say you need it cheaper ….

I've been looking for Seiko sea monsters WR200, old stocl is expensive, as are used ones on ebay, go for more than new baby monsters.

sweet watch but a bit out of my price range…unless I sell some of my other watches and that defeats of the purpose which is to buy watches.

    Well posted OP.

    • thanks! i appreciate it!

  • +2

I need to dive 900 meters deep to check the waterproofing of this watch.

      https://twitter.com/007/status/451672760654110720

This diving suit used by the US Navy and feature in a James Bond movie is only rated to 600m!

As yet no suit is capable of deeper so 900m is great as an engineering exercise.

      • Just buy a 1000m roll of fishing line. Find somewhere deep, and lower the watch down. Pray there are no hungry fish below. Perhaps test with a cheapo watch first?
I'm not sure the test will work. The cheapo watch will fail, and stop ticking. The good watch will continue ticking all the way down and back. Are fishes attracted to sounds like ticking?

  • Helium release valve?

    • Yes, there's an automatic helium-release valve at 10 o’clock

      • +2

It only works twice a day?

        I'll see myself out.

        • +1

          Don't forget your coat.

    • +2

Yes, helium migrates through rubber seals and will fill up the inside of the watch, if you are a saturation diver in an oxy-helium atmosphere. This is why helium-filled balloons lose their buoyancy after a day or so, and deflate. Balloons of the sort that carry human passengers have to use special coatings to keep the helium in - in World War I, the best material they had was made from cow or ox intestines!

Literally the most interesting thing I've read all month

  • +2

Just 22.2mm thick and 180g on a urethane strap. That's commitment.

  • +1

Wow! It really is purpose built and out of place everywhere else. That's a big watch. The glass must be 5mm thick or more.

  • +4

At least when my body lays crushed on the bottom of the ocean from the huge pressure the watch will still be working :D

    • +1

Don’t worry Man+River will find it and return it to your family.

    • +1

But how will they know time of death?

  • No extra 10% tax on it?

  • I think you guy need to check how thick it is before buy it.

      …would still bang

    • rolex sea dweller, smaller and 1200M, so it can be done

      https://www.rolex.com/watches/sea-dweller.html

      • $16,000 dollars :)

      • You've posted twice. Price is nearly 16 times more than this watch..

        • +1

1000m for under $50 US and N35A movement ….can't be too hard to make a 1000M case.

          https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/TMI-NH35A-Japan-autom…

I was saying it can be done, sure rolex is marketing and their inhouse movement, but to create a smaller case that does these depths doesn't require rare materials from the moon, Rolex use the same materials as other watches …..

        • @garage sale: If I was near a 1000 metres breathing some weird gas concoction I'd want to be sure of the time I had before having to spend another 20hrs decompressing :) or dying a horrible death

  • I like this watch http://www.dutyfreeislandshop.com/citizen-nj0070-53a-automat…
I'm sure it's already a great price, but too much for me. Can you go any lower?

    • +1

Hi! you can use the coupon code OZDFI4 to get discount.

      • Thankyou

  • Thanks OP, fathers day gift sorted

    • Son?

    • Did MathNerd adopt you?

  • Doesn't everyone here have a 900m deep bathtub?

    I do!

    • You are kidding?

Well, my water bottle is just more than 900m deep.

  • Op, Why it show as US$1,172.50 not as 1122.72 and after apply OZDFI4 only take $4 off

    • Hi. Yes, there was a mistake and it's fixed now. If you have bought it already send a message to the company with your order number and they will refund the difference with no problem.
      sorry for that

  • that's a lot of money for an ugly watch

  • how am i suppose to solar charge this when i am 1000m below the sea?

    • shine your torch on it ….

WR ratings and real dive watches are a quirky thing, like WR100, not even rated as suitable for diving, deepest I've dived is 30M, but my dive watches are WR200 min.

  • do any of the nerds or pjc or anyone else know anything about the miyota 8210 automatic movement? I'm still considering a watch from yesterday and can't find much info on this. It's a big purchase for me, so want to buy well http://www.dutyfreeislandshop.com/citizen-nj0070-53a-automat…

    • Hi! you can also check the reviews of the following model. Same watch just changing colors:
      http://www.dutyfreeislandshop.com/citizen-nj0070-53e-automat…
Also it is more popular online to find reviews.

      • Yes, I've been looking. Not much around - only one review in the link you gave that is in english and speaks something of the action; but it is a good review.

      • thanks sammas, still too expensive and realistically no warranty. I'll wait till I hit singapore where it's cheaper

        • There's 1 year warranty provided from Dutyfreeisland and later from Citizen ( the length depends of the country). But for sure if you can it cheaper and can wait it's much better :)
