TomTom quit the fitness market so this is EOL.

    • Can you still get the heart rate data from it and use it with apps?

  • Compatible with selected TomTom sports watches

Is there any way to use this without a TomTom sports watch? Some quick searching doesn't show a clear open API or guaranteed 3rd-party app support. A post on the tomtom forums from four years ago suggests that the "wahoo" app works.

    • Had a quick look and it's mixed.
Wiggle had a similar model (not sure if identical) and their description said it does work with "other Bluetooth Smart devices" which my bike computer is so I took the gamble.
No more gamble than $20 AliExpress one.

      • Fair enough it beats a generic aliexpress device, but for ~$30 you can get a xiaomi with guaranteed app support.

I have tomtom multi sport gps watch. And 2 generic bluetooth HRM that works with this or my android phone (tested with wahoo app).
I just ordered this since it's even cheaper than the generics I have. For those asking, it should just work with any bluetooth devices and apps, pretty standard protocol.

    • I've got the chest strap from my first tomtom sports watch still. Haven't really used it since picking up the spark, which has inbuilt HRM on the wrist but chest straps are still considered to be more accurate if you're really serious about your readings. Very good deal for this - provided you use it ;)

Is Tomtom and Navman still in business? Would've thought google and apple put them out of business

    • Apple uses Tomtom maps, so its just a matter of time till they implement safety cameras and speed limits (already available in the US).

  • Can I connect this to an Apple Watch series 2?

    • I think we're meant to buy this instead of an Apple Watch series 2.

    • +1

From my reading, yes, as the strap has Bluetooth LE & that's what Apple Watch requires. For $9.95 I'm taking my chances.

      • I missed it. Let me know how you go :)

        • Picked it up today; got it to sync with Apple Watch, but will need to work out how to use it with Run Keeper, and confirm it’s using the external HRM.

Does this work when your hand is moving around very fast and rigidly?

Asking for a friend who wants to monitor a certain activity with a heart rate monitor.

    • +3

Yes it will work well when shaking the juice in the carton before drinking it.

        Thanks how did you know.

          My mother caught me…

        • How did she feel when she caught you orange handed assuming what you were shaking was oranges?

      • very nice

  • Got one thanks! Will be very useful if I ever take up exercise.

  • Mine arrived this morning, haven't opened it yet though.

Works great - was able to use it with Strava on my Android phone, and connect it to my rowing machine without any issues!

      • How did you get it to pair to phone? (Without a tomtom watch).
My Note8 says "pairing rejected by device" in the Bluetooth screen where it shows up as HRM Ver0.4

        • +1

It doesn't pair, but if you open an app that's compatible with bluetooth heartrate monitors (I've only tried it with Strava), it shows up in there.

        • Ah is working with Wahoo app and did work with Strava once I found where it gets setup.
Didn't work with some others which must rely on OS level pairing.

Doesn't seem to support pairing with the Bluetooth menu, needs an app to provide the interface.

  • Mine arrived this morning. Still in box. Looks good :)

    • Mine had an $89.95 sticker on it. Ouch!

      • Yes I saw that. I tested it this morning on my Garmin Forerunner 15 and it does not connect. I believe TomTom does not connect with Garmin as they are competitors. If you want to use it for gym on your iPhone I recommend the Wahoo Fitness app. It connects to that and works well.

Saw this on Youtube which may come handy one day:

A Great Trick Solving your Heart-Rate Strap Problem
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXJ0spt9A1E

  • Battery was a bit flat down at 2.9v, I replaced as part of trying to work out why it wouldn't pair with Android (doesn't need to, app like Strava handles the connection).

But you may want a spare CR2032 handy anyway since these must have been on shelves a few years.

    • Which app works well with this for you? What do you intend to do with it?

      • Using it with Lyzene bike computer, which worked fine today, though the lump is bulkier than some others.

So won't really be using with app.
I tested with Strava and Wahoo apps.

        • Ok thanks
