Multi Room / Zone Sound System and Speakers

Looking for Multi room speaker system which can play possibly using Wi-Fi. Ease use to play multiple songs for different rooms.

Looked at Sonos, but they are around $299 per speaker.

Any other suggestions or experience. Please comment.

  Gumtree is your best friend. I've got a lot of good deals on there, you can get a used Sonos play 1 for ~ $120, or even a brand new Sonos One for $200.

  It's expensive but worth it. So save as much as you can.

  Having had the benefit of comparing Samsung multiroom vs Sonos. I would say that as a long term solution, Sonos is worth the extra money. It just works better and works with a greater number of streaming services.

  I am happy with my chromecast setup. Admittedly I only use it once or twice a month.
  I have a chromecast audio connected to the receiver in the lounge (Full size speakers), a sony speaker with chromecast builtin in the middle of the house and then another chromecast audio connected to a large battery powered speaker on trolley ($50 kmart new/years day sales) which I wheel outside when needed for parties. This gives us the ability to play the same song in sync across the whole house or different music from any combination of the speakers. The only issue I have is feedback type noise from the battery powered speaker if I have it power the chromecast audio through its usb port, if I power it from a powerpoint instead then it works fine.

    We have a similar setup but it gets used every single day. Mostly by the kids to play Katey Perry and Muppet songs but sometimes I get to play some of my own music.

  Chromecast audio. It's just a wifi music player, you need to provide an amp and speakers. Big advantage is you can upgrade the Chromecast and not have to throw away a perfectly good speaker and amp. I use an amp from the 70s and also a Sony micro hi-fi. Other rooms I have a google home. In the garage I have Chromecast audio with a sony surround system I got second hand.
