  • Tried contacting your local Toyota dealership?

    • They offer the latest ones 2018. Its $300

        Do you have a smartphone?

Get an android auto/carplay head unit. It'll cost you about $600 initially for the kit+fascia but you'l get a much better experience

        • The car already has head unit.

@ylangylang55: A new Android Auto/Carplay unit will work vastly better. Worth it for traffic, free maps, better POI search, access your phone's music easily etc etc

@ylangylang55: obviously its got a head unit. I meant replace it with something that has Android auto or Carplay

Theres some on ebay - i think its $150 for 2018 and $100 for 2017

    just search toyota navigation disc

  • Just get a car mount for your phone for $10 and use Google Maps?

    • I did. This month my data is almost finished. Therefore I should look for dvd map as some area there is no signal eg farm

Data is cheaper than crap Toyota maps. Save the area in your phone while you are at home on wifi.

You can download the maps for offline use, thus no data is consumed while you're navigating.

        • Google map or other ??? But you still need to enable the location while you using the offline map?

There are many "free" navigation applications for your android smart phone on google play.
They have all the features of a regular sat nav including voice guidance.
You install the app then open it and download the maps for your state or the entire country if you like.
Most have regular and free updates.
NO internet connection is required after it is installed, only need to have the gps turned on in your phone.

Alternatively you can buy a quality replacement head unit for about the same price that toyota want for an update.
You will be able to install your preferred navigation software in that, even install more than one if you like.
It will have far more features than your current unit.
    Check out Joying head units.

  • You can download a 2015 map ISO off the internet, burn it to a DVD/USB or SD card (depending on your car) and update manually for free.

I'll see if I can find a link for you later.

    • There wasnt sd slot, usb on this car. I can burn it on dvd R and use on my current head unit to navigiation ?

For my car you had to take a panel (over the radio clock) off (easy job - two pins and a suction cup) to reveal a hidden DVD slot. Burned the map ISO onto a dual-layer DVD-R and voila, done. You Camry likely has a different but similar process.

        • Do you have youtube link for that ? I am quite lack of techno

        • @ylangylang55: I'll have a quick look now, but otherwise might have to wait for tonight to find the correct files/dl links and a full tutorial. Unfortunately while the basic concept is the same, the specifics vary from car model to car model.

@ylangylang55: See if this one matches what your Camry's nav/dvd system looks like:

Edit: ISO file apparently can be found here:

          (mod: removed warez links)

From cursory search, haven't checked, but you basically want the Toyota Navigation Maps v23 (that's the latest one). I dl'd it about 6 months back (again, will see if I can find the link I used when I get home), burned to Dual Layer DVD-R, works.

        • Okay, went through my history and here are the links. It's for the V22 (2016 version) and the newest is now V24 (2018 version).

          https://www.gpspower.net/toyota-lexus/342376-toyota-lexus-wh…

          (mod: removed warez links)

          Burn:

AFAIK some earlier models require it to be burnt to an DVD + dual layer
          Later models ~2010 on DVD - R

@HighAndDry: Thanks! I just bought a 2nd hand lexus and it still had V19 maps disc. This torrent worked perfectly.

Now on the search for V24 (or v25 if available). I tried signin in to gpdpower and fixmygps site but their signin process seems broken right now.

Or the other option is to get a GROM…

        • @HighAndDry: brilliant, I will give it a try & pm. Really appreciated it

        • +1

@ylangylang55: No worries. If the torrent doesn't work, lemme know your download site of choice and I'll see if I can upload it. It's a 1.4GB file though, and I'm pretty sure the "A" in my "ADSL 2+" net stands for "asymmetrical" so that might take a while.

Oh - and double check your car IS the DVD-type. If it uses SD-cards instead you might not be able to DIY, or the process might be so hard as to be impractical.

OP your head unit is an old shit Toyota Gen 5 system developed in the early 2000s. No Bluetooth streaming, no USB, plain-jane graphics, no speed camera/red light camera alerts, the list goes on. Instead of spending hundreds of $$$ on map updates from Toyota, which are already outdated anyway, if you're going to keep the vehicle for a long time, invest in a Kenwood DDX918WS with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. That way you get a head unit designed specifically for Toyota, you will never need to update maps, use whatever map app you wish, and bring your Camry up to 2018 standards with the infotainment. 200mm fascia is available to suit.

    • Second this option over spending $300 on a map update. Otherwise free DIY map update is my recommendation.

My personal solution - even though I DIY updated my nav maps already - is using my phone w/ Google Auto and Google Maps. Custom installed a bluetooth adaptor to my car's headunit so it connects automatically, can use steering wheel and other controls for music, and just use phone screen for the map.

    • The car has built in bluetooth already.
Btw do you know how much appr. for install?

      • +1

The car has built in bluetooth already.

For phone hands free only, not music streaming.

Grab a Kenwood DDX918WS during the 20% off eBay deals on OzB, should be about $860 (they retail normally for around $1100-$1200). Fascia from Toyota dealership parts dept. PZQ60 33030 about $35-$40, also 28 to 20 pin adapter harness PZQ60 00141 for Kenwood steering wheel control retention, about $15. Factory reverse camera retention kit Aerpro APVTY01 usually about $70 on eBay, also try to catch one during 20% off deals. DIY or find someone to install (mobile installers cheaper than Autobarn, Strathfield etc.), shouldn't be anymore than $150 installation cost.

Just for ease of OP: That's about $1,135 all up. Which is a lot to spend on an almost 10 year old camry.

        • +2

@HighAndDry: If the OP is considering hanging onto it, (and as always with Toyotas, they last forever) it might be worthwhile. Especially being a Grande with all the decent fruit for its day, safety and feature-wise.
