Thoughts on This Letterbox - Is It a Bad Idea?

Hi all,

Looking to change letterboxes, I was having a look at Bunnings and came across a few letterboxses that I liked, as I live in a house with 2 of my good mates I sent them the photos and asked them for their opinion and they voted for this letterbox, whilst I do like the letterbox I think it sends the wrong message with the 'Parcel' drop feature, they both order a lot of packages and parcels to the house where's I have them sent to my work instead.

Do you think that letterbox is a bad idea? I reckon it advertises the wrong message and broadcasts to the public that we order a lot of stuff, therefore the house would be a good place to break into.

My vote was for this letterbox on a concrete slab

Every opinion is appreciated in this case.

Thank you.

Yes and No, its safe to say most places have a lot of 'stuff' if you break in.

Saying that, a drop mailbox might say you're not home often during the day. But then so does knocking on the door and no one answering.

All that said, there are lots of drop mailboxes around, so just do it.

You could add another in for the 'vote'. this one is a mix of both and doesn't scream drop mailbox like the bunnings one

I reckon they'll steal your letterbox instead.

I think it is a good idea. It’s not going to make any difference to wether someone breaks into your house and is a much better solution than leaving parcels at the front door or having to pick them up at the post office.

  • This parcel mail box maybe a thing in the furure replacing the tiny letter box. I seen one in bunnings, different brand, for less than $100 as they were on special. Perhaps you just sign up to Bunnings newsletter and wait.

  • I think your choice looks a lot better aesthetically. People can break into a mailbox a lot easier than your house - I don’t think it increases the break and enter risk but it might increase the risk of parcels being stolen.

I get stuff delivered to work or at the parcel locker at the post office - parcel lockers are very easy to use and free, downside is you need to collect in 48 hours.

FYI I have this one on a concrete slab:

  • Oops I tried to post an ebay link but OP search up parcel drop mailbox from greatgrab ebay. Bought for $220, doesn't look super swish but has a big capacity. Gonna swish mine up with some spray paint

  • I see nothing wrong with a parcel drop off section in a mailbox - if someone's breaking into your house, they're doing it for more than just parcels, think electronics, cash, jewelry, etc.

BUT - your option saves $300 immediately.

    • Opportunistic criminals are not your brightest bunch.

      Do not underestimate their stupidity.

  • Allow for a re-keying of the doorlock on this thing - opportunistic chumps that steal mail are armed with master keys, rendering something like this useless.
