 - The releases of certain LEGO products are fairly predictable because they consistently follow a pattern. - I would expect an EV3 2.0 very soon because EV3 was release in 2013 and The LEGO Group usually releases an updated version around 5 years later. I highly doubt the updated version would supersede the original—they haven't so far. It would have the same controller and motors but may include new sensors or unique parts. - The next iteration of LEGO robotics that would have a new controller and motors could be expected around 2023. New iterations of robotics are done each decade. - big change might be what languages are supported for programming rather than just legos own. - we upgraded to ev3 for the wireless brick, all the motors, cables from old set worked fine with the ev3. - the brick could offer a bit more flexibility in programming langues, you can hack and run other stuff but support would be unsuitable for school environment. - with things like raspberry pi running scratch, python, java and blocky it’s a pity kids can’t code and test on a cheaper platform and then load and run on mindstorms, learn and transition to more mainstream languages along the way.

 - I really hope the next iteration uses the same motors as TECHNIC—like they did with the RCX controller. - ability to add technic motors would greatly expand the system, bigger challenge would be how many ports to include on the brick, but the compute you now get on a SOC they could add other bus tech to it …..looking at the raspberry pi compute and it’s size, lego are in position to add a lot more to the next gen brick. - problem might be mindstorms is targeted as an introduction learning tool, although some people have built crazy things with it, in a lot of their market the project is stripped down for the next class which limits how long kids have dedicated access to a set …..eg a day, a week, a semester ?

Is this version in danger of being superseded soon? It has been around for a while.
