Cheapest Way to Get a New iPhone?

Hi,

Anyone have advice on how/where to get your hands on an iPhone cheapest. For example, for a MacBook Pro, the best way is iFrog then Office Works price match. Any ideas like that for iPhone?

Thanks in advance!

  • wait for a deal and purchase outright.

    • Any info on what sort of deals come up? Is 10% off the best that comes by?

          @MrPyz:

she is rocking a Iphone 4

perhaps she could take a look at the current mid-range androids. some ~$600 take very good images.

changing from ios to android would be easy now that her phone is so old.

        • @whooah1979: Thanks for your response, she is 70 years old and wants an iPhone, I have no desire to argue with her haha

        • @MrPyz: Maybe assist her to switch to telstra through JB and take advantage of some of the deals?

        • @MrPyz: I think you can get the tax back off it to if you take it out of the country. I forget what it's called but I'm sure someone on here will say :)

    Get last years model.

  • Which model do you want?

    • It's more of a general question. Keeping an eye out for an 8 for a friend who wants that specific one now, but want to buy it from a retailer. Also, want to know if there is a great place to keep an eye out for when the new ones are released.

        1) Buy Phone outright at JB HiFi on a plan with Telstra for $200 gift card
        2) Pay using 28 Degrees or similar credit card for price protection insurance.
        3) Claim TRS when leaving the country on this trip.
        4) Claim price protection in a month when the new models come out and this years model gets a discount and becomes last years model.

  • Get her a 6S, I got mine for less than $400 on an ebay deal a few months ago. Compatible with the latest iOS etc. If she's 70 she probably doesn't need the absolute latest thing for it to be worth spending over a thousand.

Retailers typically have a <10% mark up on Apple products. For example. when HN runs a 10% off sale on MacBooks, they're losing money and need to contact their suppliers who refund them the 10% margin on all products sold during the promotion. Apple uses this approach worldwide, so the only times where you will find any sort of 'discounted' Apple product is when exchange rates line up well overseas and grey importers can pass on savings after their own markups. The problem with this approach is that you lose your ACL guarantees (therefore only 1 year warranty) and the new GST laws will eat into most (if not all) of the potential savings.

tl;dr -Discounted Apple products don't exist, outside of the "fell off the back of the truck this morning" which come at a discount but also have a discounted use case (IMEI ban)

Get one on monthly payment scheme, export it to another country. Tell the provider that you lost it or it got stolen, get a replacement. Sell the one you exported to another country.

    Almost free iPhone.

I have seen people actually do this fraud.

I got an iPhone 6 for $399 at Optus (not on a plan) and I think last week Australia post was selling them for the same price.

    Dont!
    Waste of money
No great advances on the iphone 7 and even the 6s
    This from Apple staff

  • I'd say look at second-hand options, which still have AppleCare+. It's possible to check the serial number of the iPhone on the Apple website in real time rather than trusting the seller. Going for an older model, maybe the year before or so, that will still give the iPhone experience and you still get reasonable performance. That'd be my suggestion. But of course not everybody wants a used iPhone, which is fair enough, in which case I'd suggest waiting for a deal like others have suggested.

  • If you have a contact in USA, someone travelling there or a relative living there or similar, Apple Store US offers refurbished iPhone 7, new battery new case 1year warranty at nearly half price.

Get iPhone 6s from Aldi now.it is available in some stores.
I think it is 469 with 64gb refurbished one.
I bought for my children few weeks back.
    I hope that is cheaper
