BEWARE of New SMS Scam

https://imgur.com/a/iRYH2GJ

Just received this text which doesn't have a number associated to it informing me that JB Hi-Fi is looking for product testers and i've been signed up by a friend. After clicking the link it redirects to a site which tracks how many people clicked on the link, which then redirects to a mock of the JB Hi-Fi website (happeight.com). The site promises free high priced products for you to test and you "just pay shipping". I'm not friends with anyone named Jack :) Haven't seen this type of scam before, stay safe Ozbargainers.

  • yeah I got this too

  • Sounds identical to what happened to me 2 years ago. Its not new, just not in the spotlight like the Chinese voicemail callers & other scams.

    • Does the Chinese voicemail scam charge you if you dont hang up straight away?

no, they are trying to scam the chinese who understand the language.

        • Unless you fall for it and give them your credit card details on the message lol.

I tried to sell them my house but they wouldn't stop talking

  • After clicking the link

That was silly, sometime that's enough for the criminal's.

    • Maybe it doesn't matter, maybe the OP has no life…

    • Most browser's are pretty secure.

I'm well aware of the risks that this usually entails but its a risk i'm willing to take to see the type of scam it is and learn for next time.

I suspect you're already infected if you're seeing a pseudo JB HiFi page. Either that, or it's already been killed.

There is no record for a webpage to be displayed.
