Exercise Bike for Large Guy

Hi all. Im currently in the market for an exercise bike, must be able to have a 180-200kg user.

Im not sure what to look for or if the ones on ebay are any good qaulity wise but i saw this:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141703202948

Would like to stay under $300 if possible, proper aust store would be better then ebay for warranty reasons. Anyone who helps me search would be much appreciated.

As as a large person myself, i've bought one of these in the past and i do not think it is a good idea. Even if it could hold a lot of weight, the seat dimensions can be small and the setup would not be comfortable for a large frame in this position.

You may be better just getting a fitbit and start aiming for 10k steps a day.

If you are set on getting one of these types of bikes, keep in mind your feet will need to go in front of you to peddle and i personally found it awkward with my stomach in the way to ride. just my 2 cents.

    • Ive used one at the gym and was fine? Should be the same no?

I forgot to say thankyou for the reply :)

      • The Recumbent style bikes like you linked have the bigger seats, so just find one with a large seat base. The upright ones have the smaller seats that ride up your crack and are uncomfortable for larger guys.

    • No one is better off neurotically monitoring themselves with inaccurate Fitbits.

      • Lol :) i plused you because you were smashed with negs nd made me laugh

Better to buy second hand. The prices will often be less than half what someone paid and it will already be put together for you. I purchased one second hand that was only used for a few months before the owner stopped using it.

Go for a good name brand one because if you ever need parts it should be easy to obtain.

The infiniti brand is the one I have and is a good starting exercise bike.

Another option is to buy a good road bike and attach a bike trainer to it. If you later on decide to ride outdoors you don’t have to buy a separate bike.

    • Issue would be finding one for my size i would have thought

      • Conduct a search on ebay with your criteria and see what comes up.

Or alternatively research brands/models online that suit your needs and then search for the brand or model on eBay.

My bike cost the original purchaser over $500 and I purchased it for about $150.

  • My first thought is that a cross trainer, by virtue of not having a seat, may easier meet the weight rating but may even be a more comfortable machine. 30sec on Google shows this - more expensive than you are hoping but I expect something like this second hand could fit the bill well.

  • I don't know your height or fitness level, but I agree that a morbidly obese person would much prefer a recumbent stationary bike over any type of upright bike. I don't think "overweight" people really understand all the extra hurdles faced in carrying all that weight. It isn't a good idea to carry too much weight on your perineum.

Going to the gym I assume you're strength training as well but be very careful of your joints. Being heavy often means you have a higher "absolute maximum muscle strength" regardless of training so it may be harder to know your limits.
