Mixing Ram - 2x 8GB Dual Channel 1x 16GB?

Hi guys,

I have 2 x 8GB 3466MHz rams installed dual channel corsair and I found one single 16GB same speed 3466MHz same brand but different model. Will it work? So following setup:

2 x VENGEANCE® RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3466MHz C16 Memory Kit

1 x corsair dominator platinum ddr4 1 x 16GB

I have Ryzen 1800x and Gaming K7 AX370 motherboard. My dual channel ram kit will be affected?

It'll work. It won't run in dual channel mode.

    • Thanks for replying, is it much of a difference having single over dual?

I dont fo gaming its mainly video editing

Very little difference in gaming, might be same for other stuff but maybe there is some aspect of video editing where it makes a difference.

        • I had the same idea, but just recently saw a lot of game comparison videos on youtube (single 16 vs dual 8 etc) and judging by FPS, it seems like dual channel memory is really worth the trouble.

        • @digitizer: think about it logicly, you have an 16l tank with 1 inlet or 2 8l tanks with an inlet each.

Although the capacity is the same it can only throughput as much as the inlets allow.

        • @Seedy seed: Not sure i get your point :) So you are agreeing with me and just saying that it's 2x quicker to get data in/out through 2 inlets as opposed to just 1?

        • @digitizer: yeh im saying 2 inlets get the info through faster lol.

  • Amd likes faster ram, dual channel is the way to go, not sure though on your scenario
