Best Android Phone for under $600

Hi guys my S3 is RIP.

I’m looking for an Android phone under $600 for the next 4-5 years. Currently on the Aldi $15 per month with 3Gig and happy but will switch for a good bargain plan with phone included under $50 pm for 24 months. In terms of phone - good screen and good processor so it can last me a few years but gimmicks aren’t important.

There’s heaps of choice but doesn’t seem to be a lot of bargains. Please help.

Thanks in advance!

Nokia 6.1 seems to be good at around $400 outright. I was researching recently for my dad and concluded that was good value in that range. Attracted in particular to the Android One platform.

    • I just bought one from ebay for about $289. Absolute bargain for that price.

  • I'm in the same boat. I'm currently using my Nexus 5 that is doing very well considering its age and all the falls it had. I'm looking for something in the same budget as you and yes, Android One or stock Android is my preference too. My suggestion is wait (if you can) until Pixel 3 is released, it will drive down many prices. Other alternatives are either the Xiaomi Mi A2, or a better Huawei/Xiaomi (but then their own OS).

    • I have an M1 A2 and i am very happy with it. It is quick and the display is clear and larger than my previous iphone 6+. I also bought a Spigen case for better protection than the inlcuded silicon case (which is good but didnt offer much drop protection).

  • i'd look into get a xiaomi redmi note 5 pro/a ~$300.
it will be an upgrade to your phone regardless, and in 2-3 years you'll have another $300 to play with to get another phone.

Few ideas in this thread, price range of $300 to $500 so possibly a little less than your budget. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/360955

  • xiaomi mi max 3

    • too big.

  • will switch for a good bargain plan with phone included under $50 pm for 24 months.

      You sunk my battleship.

    • What’s that

      • samsung.. really good battery life and specs for the price

Nokia 7 plus looks good. Motorola v20 is pretty nice too. Nokia 8 smaller screen. Will not buy grey import as would like local warranty for peace of mind

    • I have the Nokia 7 Plus. I really like it, especially the battery. I think Android 9 is coming in a couple of weeks. The only thing I miss is a notification light. Some people argue that the camera isn't at flagship level but you can load the Pixel camera app onto it which improves it a lot.

      • yep, 7+ and it is stock android.

not a fan of miui, otherwise poco could be a good one

Pocophone could potentially be a new ozb favourite. looks like it ticks all the boxes.

    • No NFC might be a dealbreaker for some. I only use NFC occasionally myself but it's still nice to have.

I've stopped carrying credit cards and depend solely on NFC.
Wonder why their reluctance to include it.
perhaps other services in India (PayTM etc) are more popular

    • Never heard of it

  • lg v30

    • If I can get it for $600 with Australian warranty I’d jump on it.

  • S8

    • Too expensive

      • It goes under $600 on ebay often which is what your budget is

        • Grey import with no real warranty. Australian stock is too expensive

  • lg v20. It has a removable battery. I got it from jbHi-Fi for $550

    • Doesn’t look like JB sells it anymore

  • Would say either the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 or LG G6 are decent options. I personally can't get around using chinese phones UIs, whether it's Xiaomi, Oppo or Huawei. I've grown to like Nokia recently, they seem to have been on top of the ball on software updates so far.

  • Get Samsung note 4. It's old but it has lots of great reviews. See YouTube. Many users are still happy with it. I'm one of them 😆
