Which Bike Should I Get?

Someone has recently stolen my road bike and now I'm looking for an upgrade to my previous Scott Speedster. There were three bikes I am tossing up between.

Cannondale Evo SuperSix 2014 105 for $1050, the Cannondale Synapse 2017 105 $750 or Specialized Tarmac Elite SL2 Full Carbon 105 for $950. These are all second hand and would love some help

Thanks

    "Which Bike Should I Get?"

    A penny farthing.

I'd get the supersix. But depends on what you want it for. Supersix and tarmac will be more aggressive than your speedster from what i understand. Get the synapse if you are commuting on it and have poor flexibility.

    • leaning towards the supersix. thanks

    • DO you happen to know what this line on the frame is?

      • chainstay protector. clear plastic film to stop the chain damaging the stay.

    MT-07

    • for ~$1k? You'd go faster with the bikes OP listed!

  • one with 2 wheels

  • Someone has recently stolen my road bike

With this in mind, be wary of leaving in same spot etc. I was in a spot before, where bike was stolen almost as soon a I got it.
If you have no choice but to leave it in a vulnerable location, then think about getting a very good lock, before you go put another (better) bike there for theif to steal. I went for 'Masterlock street cuffs' which are about $100, but IMO worth it, for peice of mind of exceptional security (provided you apply lock correctly) .

    • yeah will keep that in mind, never going to leave it outside lol

      • Apparently alot of people use these MasterLock street-cuffs for locking up motorbikes.
Its a shame we have to think about these things, but at least you can beat the thieves with a good lock. It would be more hassle than its worth, and they would go steal another bike thats not locked up well instead :/

  • Do they all have the same 105 Groupset? The 2014 ish models might have the 10 speed groupset instead of the later 5700 11 speed gropupset that the 2017 model synapse will almost certainly have. Without geeking out I would go for the 11 speed groupset so the 2017 model synapse.

How are you riding? Do you race crits? Do you even race? Or do you do long charity rides, Gran Fondos etc, events like around the bay in a day etc. How often do you ride and what type of riding do you do?

Are they all the same and correct size?

Without knowing too much detail I would recommend the later model Synapse

    • Yeah assuming the 2014 model would have the 10 speed groupset. Would be riding almost everyday and also do around the bay stuff like that…
      Thanks for your input :)

If you mean the horizontal line on the chain stay it is the edge of a clear piece of protective tape. Almost all bike frames have this it is intended to protect the paintwork and the carbon underneath from oil and potentially from your chain if it slaps against the frame or even comes off mid-ride. Have a look but I think you will find it is a clear tape-like protector. Flat Pedals?
