Will JB Hi-Fi Price match?

I am looking to purchase the new Dell XPS 15 15.6" Laptop.

At JB Hi Fi it is going for $3099 and reduced to $3006 according to the employee there for their ''best price''.

I walked away and saw the same laptop on sale on the Dell website (Australia) for $2,789.00

According to the price-match promise on the JB Website, would they honour this price in-store?

Any previous attempts to price-match a laptop at JB Hi-Fi?

Unfortunately only JB Hi Fi stocks the Dell XPS 15 (HN or TGG don't…)

    Ask them and report back

  • Did you even read the jbhifi link you posted?

    • I searched these forums and others have mentioned trouble with price-matching small goods at JB, was seeing if anyone had luck with a larger item like this being price matched to the brands website.

      • Some sales staff might be… uncooperative. But you can usually just go to another sales staff member.

I’ve priced matched at JB many times before from laptops/TVs/whitegoods everything.
They matched online stores/actual stores & I’ve got them to match ebay sales before as well.
    Just ask

Just get it from Dell. Do you want to price match so you can take the product instantly?

See if you can get a Cashback on Dell as well with cash rewards?

    • I do want it instantly, but more so that a lot of reviews and Dell's reputation being hit-and-miss for these laptops, many having faults. So if I purchase it and it's a lemon, I can go back there and hopefully swap it for one that is working rather than the hassle of contacting Dell and posting it back over east (I'm in Perth).

      • Fair enough. I have never had any experience with Dell.

Personally, when it comes to warranty. I return/call the manufacturer/brand instead of the store i purchased from. It just seems so much easier dealing with warranty. In saying that, I've never purchased Dell.

What did JB HiFi say when you asked them?

    • I saw the deal later after I visited the store… The 'best price' the employee said he could do was $3006

        So you didn't ask them?

          So, you didn't ask them.

Correct… Finally decided to read the actual post contents, good to see.

It depends on the staff member, but yes they do price match and I have got some excellent deals. But I would also caution you against purchasing an XPS 15, they are plagued with issues and really not worth the asking price.

    • I thought the specs are really good… Would you have any other recommendations similar to this? i7 8th gen, dedicated GPU and long battery life? Cheers

Specs are good yes, but do you really need that power and the 4K screen? My recommendation would be any Lenovo Thinkpad. They are bulletproof machines and there are often good deals posted here on OzBargain.

The amount of time you spent writing this post you could have just turned around and asked ANY jb hifi

    Yes they do price match.

Also if you did your research xps range frequently go on sale on dell or dell ebay or even the dell outlet

  • yeah i think they will, just show them the source? but they may not because im guessing dell doesnt have a physical store selling these?

If you ask them, they might price match.
If you don't ask them, they definitely won't price match.

What you got to lose by asking?

  • Depends on the salesperson. Some seem to think that they are paying a discount out of their own pocket.

I was looking for a new phone and the JB salesman refused to price match the GG even though it's now the same company.

Another time they not only matched the price of a competitor on a new hard drive but undercut the competitor by $10.

If you don't ask you don't get.

    • 100% this, wont matter what anybody says here in the yes or no column, it will always come down to the salesperson/manager on duty at the time, at a policy level of course they do it, whether the hipster on duty at the time will do it is a whole other story

So yes, you can certainly bargain it down.
EDIT: Note that this should be pretty close to their bottom line. They don't allow gift card payments on the JB Hi-fi commercial portal.

  • I am assuming you're referring to this one?. Another member was after the same laptop and I can confirm this has been a part of the regular 15% off laptop sales at JB, which brings the price down to $2634.15.

I've managed to get them to 'price match' their own previous sale price usually if it's within 1 week since the last sale had ended. Might not be possible now as it has been more than 2 weeks since the last sale was on, but no harm in asking.

  • No idea about price matching, but whenever I buy something from JB Hifi thats over $100 I always ask them to put the price down and they usually always do. Even if its a catalog item or new item or on sale item. Usually they don't put it down by much though but I've always gotten them too, so I don't see why they wouldn't go down to a price match.

  • In my experience JB are great at price matching. I’ve price matched on probably a dozen items ranging from $300 to $3000 and they always better the price. The store you’re comparing just needs to be a well known legit business and on-line only is fine.
They always seem happy to do so as well.

Maybe you just got a dud employee or a dud store. Try again.
