rCup Regular Size Reusable Cup $15 with First Regular Coffee Free @ 7-Eleven

90

I have been looking for a good coffee cup - rCup is a reusable coffee cup that is made from disposable coffee cups - they are BPA free, 360 degree drinking, leak proof and insulated - can only see one other retailer and they sell for $24.95 + 6.95 shipping - only one colour available at 7-Eleven - although online there are more.
Tested it out - definitely leakproof - fits in the cup holder of the car and love not having to find the hole to drink from.

    $15 for a cup lol

No wonder people don't give a crap about using single use items.

~$15 is pretty standard for quality KeepCup type options.
A lot of coffee places give you 50c off your coffee, so only takes 30 coffees to pay itself off, which isn't actually too bad.

However, if you normally drink 7-11 coffee or don't get a discount it doesn't really make financial sense.
      Also, I wouldn't want to pay $15 for a 7-11 branded cup.

      • Well I can't speak for the group but I have two:
The first one was free from Jamaica Blue
The second one cost 50c at Coles lol

        • are they BPA free and leak proof?

        • @furythree: Well seeing as the Jamaica Blue is a keepcup so I'm guessing that's a yes to both?
Also the 50c Coles one is leak proof but not sure about BPA free

      • Delighted that there was no 7-11 branding. Grabbed two cups

    • its often the case with this sort of stuff (these are apparently made from disposable cups).

Unless a larger corporation or government subsidies it, $15 is cheap considering the manufacturing costs that goes into making it.

have you walked into target or kmart lately ? $2 will get you a no brand "keep cup"

These are made of disposable cups, Kmart ones are more plastic and add to the problem that these are trying to solve.

        • @steff: no plastic is only a problem if you throw it out. I've got family tupperware thats nearly 50yrs old. And I've got decor plastic food storage containers that are over 25yrs. And my forementioned 10yr+ camping cup.

All very good for the environment.

@supabrudda: You're obviously more knowledgeable about it than I am, given you're in the industry. Maybe it's just good old greed then.

ugh those cups are the worst

          definitely not leak proof

      • I doubt it costs even a few dollars to make these.

They only last for 3yrs. Ivey got my trusty plastic/metal camping cup which is over 10yrs.

It's good they're recycling, but the idea I'm paying a premium for an inferior "recycled" product doesn't sit with me. I'd rather pay less for something that actually lasts.

Exactly. Unless someone backs these and reduces cost, it's an uphill battle regardless of where their heart's at.

  • It's a well made cup but the coffee could get stuck in the lid locking mechanism, and not necessarily easy to clean, so something to be mindful of

    • I own one - the top of the lid pops off for cleaning (it’s in two parts).

  • thanks OP, this is perfect for me as a regular 7-11 medium coffee drinker.

imo people will only care about the damage these disposable coffee cups is doing once they either get taken away (ala plastic bags) or start getting charge for the cup.

    How much do they hold?

The insulated travel/camping cups are fairly cheap

    Here's a 300ml Bodum Joy Cup (300ml $9 at Myers

And a $5 one at Kmart

Or a $1.50 400ml non insulated one at Kmart

340ml I believe. Standard medium coffee size.

    • Just bought one of the Bodum ones, looks like a winner for $9!

      • Just don't drop it

        Edit: oh, it's plastic!

I bought a 1l, stainless steel vacuum cup for Amazon for $20. I could maybe imagine paying $15 for a smaller size of that, but $15 for a shitty small plastic cup because it conforms to some wanky trend? Hell no.

Yo, $15? and you're calling this a bargain?

  • +2

Nothing worse than not being able to find the hole!

  • +2

I own one. I paid $25.00 when they were first released. If you do not attach the two parts of the lid back together securely after cleaning, it will leak (can be tricky). Also, although they are “insulated” hot drinks will be luke warm within an hour. For keeping hot drinks warm, I’m now using a $7 insulated drink bottle from Kmart.
