Do Mid 2000s Toyota Camry Sedan Rear Seats Fold down?

Hi all,

Looking for a new affordable/budget car I can fit my surfboard (shortboard) in.

Does the rear seat fold down completely in all Camrys?

Is it just a ski port or will I be able to get my surfboard through the hole?

Thanks!

  • My parents have a 2005 Camry and the seats do fold down, but not too sure how big the hole is. You could easily inspect a car and ask if you can fold the seats down - most people won't say no :) A lot of sedans and hatchbacks can get roof racks though, and that might be safer for transporting a surfboard.

    • Thanks for your reply, Ive had racks before and I much prefer to throw the boards in the car, don't have to worry about straps and board damage or wind noise.

Definitely could inspect, but after a quick answer before I begin my search through the classifieds for the perfect budget car.

      • Presumably you’ll still check the actual car you’re buying by bringing your surfboard with you and seeing if it fits?

        Right??

        • I assume it saves OP the trouble by ruling in or out certain models.

        • @HighAndDry:

Yep this, I'm a very mechanical person (I do all my own work) and a true bargain hunter.

So I'm shortlisting models that will work for me, then I will go hunting.

    Roof racks, perhaps??

Or, being a surfer, how about some hooks to mount it on the side?

    • Too loud on highway and slow to attach, much prefer to throw the boards in the car.

Those side racks are certainly interesting! :p

    • Illegal to have things hanging out further than your wheel well (aside from mirrors)

Pretty sure they do at 60/40 split.

Camry seats do fold down, the gap in my 2011 camry is smaller than my 99 camry, but could still easily fit the width of a surf board.

    • Thanks for answering

I have a 2005 Camry, you should be fine to fit a surfboard through the gap to the boot. If you can let me know the size of your board, I can confirm this.

    • Thanks so much for the offer to measure, I really appreciate it. I'm confident that it will fit from yours and other people's comments. :)
