Expectable Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Availability

So I'm in the market for a new phone (coming from the OG OnePlus), and am currently considering the Mi 8, the OnePlus 6 and the Mi Mix 2s.
With the Mix 3 coming soon (rumoured September 15), I'm going to wait for that to drop before deciding, since it looks pretty damn promising.

However I'm leaving for study exchange in Vietnam in mid-October, so I guess does anyone have an estimate of how long it'll take after its announcement to be able to get our hands on it, based on the Mix 2/2s? I see the Pocophone is already available, so I assume there's some chance that it'll be possible?

EDIT: Xiaomi says it's not coming until October anyway.

  • I am also in the market for a new phone. I have done a day of research deciding which way to go. My budget is around $300. From what I have gathered the nokia 6.1 is a beast for the price. My main issue staying away from most of the xiaomi phones is they don't support band 28. THe nokia is currently going for $287.10 on ebay. Was comparing it to the moto g6 but they are more expensive and like the design of the nokia more. Probably a bit below the type of phone you are looking for but definitely seems like a solid pickup for the low to mid-range phones.

    • Just note that Specifications do matter to a great extent. Here's a list of SoC's or Processors and how they perform.

      1 - QSD 845: 2,500 / 8,900 / 31,000

      (to be announced/tested: Kirin 980, QSD 855, Exynos 9910)

      • To be honest, I don't use my phone a whole lot. Where does the QSD 630 come on that list? somewhere between 625 and 636?

        • The QSD 625 is a low-end SoC.
Costs around $1 to make, and is sold for around $11 to OEMs in bulk. It's exactly the same as the QSD 626 / 630 / 632 (very minor differences). So yeah, don't get a new phone with the QSD 630 as its either obsolete already or its in the low-end segment and so the phone should be very cheap (<AU$200). In comparison, a "very" old QSD 800 SoC is much faster in the GPU and Single-thread performance, the two most important aspects of the processor. However, the QSD 625 does edge out in the multi-core benchmarks, which isn't as important, and it achieves it simply because it has 4 more cores. However, the QSD 625 and its variants do use much less power/battery.

At the minimum, you should aim for the QSD 636.
It doesn't seem like a big difference in nomenclature… however its much better as it has proper Cortex A73 "BIG cores". You can tell by comparing their single-threaded performance, which is around +60% faster.

The QSD 660 is an overclocked QSD 636, its a good processor.
Qualcomm wants to replace these two with the new QSD 670 and the QSD 710 brothers.
All four of these processors are great for real-world practical use, and are close to the performance of the "old" QSD 820 / 821. Which means they are much faster than the "very old" QSD 800 / 801 / 805 processors, whilst using less power too.

And if you want high-end you should either wait for the Huawei Mate10 and its Kirin 980 SoC, or get a phone with a QSD 845 now.
There's no reason to have to settle for a QSD 835 or a Kirin 970 processor in the high-end market, since the QSD 845 is universally superior (single, multi, gpu, driver support, hackability/community) and its available in affordable price brackets too.

PS not to mention the QSD 845 chipset can allow you to do proper GameCube/Wii emulation, whereas the Exynos/Kirin/QSD 835 struggle to do so. That's the one-thing I can come up with, in which it separates the QSD 845 from the other chips from a practical/real-world use difference. Though none of them can properly emulate PS2 titles, that would probably be achievable in 2020. And don't expect to see the PS3 and Switch emulators for Android anytime soon.

        • @Kangal: Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I had lost my phone and needed to order something asap. My budget was $300 and it seemed like the best choice for that price range. It won't be used for anything high end just day to day tasks and maybe a couple apps/games if that.

    • i'm also need new phone…nokia 6.1 dual sims version? seems nokia 6.1 has NFC while nokia 6.1 plus isn't….

  • Don't get it.
If its unveiled on September 15, it will probably be open to preorders and they usually hit the ~200,000 unit marks. And by late-September it should start popping up on sites like Aliexpress, Banggood, GearBest, Geekbuying, etc etc. Reviews should be available in early October, that's when you can make up your mind. At that point its probably too late for you to buy it (shipping usually takes 5 weeks from China, thanks AusPost).

However, you could probably buy it in Vietnam.

So far I'm not too impressed by the PocoF1. Maybe you won't get either, there is the OnePlus 6t that is coming soon.

    • Yeah, not getting the Poco, NFC is a dealbreaker for me, otherwise I might have considered it on value alone.

      • same here bro…i have being hearing poco one of best phone out there but doesn't have NFC.

  • Here's an update to my previous list (for those interested).
*A balanced SoC is most desired, with importance given to IPC, then Total CPU, and finally Graphical Powress
*thermals and battery life taken into account when positioning
*scores are based on averages, and rounded up/down, due to variance of handsets
*some scores are not properly available (?), but an estimate is provided.
