I've written an Android launcher specifically aimed at those new to a smart device (e.g. seniors), and it's worked well for my particular targets (a father and a nanna, both declaring beforehand they can never use 'these things'). Dragged them both right into the 21st century, I did. I thought I'd share it with the ozbargain community in case it's of any use to others.
The idea is to make the launcher simple and clear (yet customisable); something that can be used with no prior experience. Just about everything is on one screen and big. You can set it all up for them and there's an option in the settings that prevents further changes. That way they don't accidentally mess something up, thereby reducing follow-up support calls!
Any feedback or questions are welcome. It's free, no ads, IAPs, etc.
