Best deals for the Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 6

Hi All

Have my mind set on getting the Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 6.

Was wondering what might be the best deal ATM for it. Or should I wait?

Looking for at least 16GB Ram.

Cheers

  • Not sure I'd really recommend getting a Carbon. I work at a uni and we've had a few issues with them. Most notable is poor battery life, partially due to Lenovo's use of the 'modern standby' which limits the amount of power control options at your disposal. Performance also gets nerfed with one of their BIOS updates which reduces power draw to extend battery life.

    • I have the opposite experience - we all use the X1 Carbons at my work (not sure which generation) - I find they have great battery life.

      • We've only had this issue with the 6th (current gen) one as its the only one where modern standby is locked in as the only available BIOS power config. The battery drain is normal during regular use, but due to it lacking a 'deep sleep' mode, it drains more than other laptops when put into sleep (around 30%+ overnight on sleep mode). This can obviously be avoided by shutting down instead of sleeping. There is a workaround that enables S3 to fix up the power drain, but that's only for Linux. As far as I know, the previous generations don't have this issue.

        • Thanks for that! I'll definitely look into that before I make the purchase. I actually own a lenovo (organization-provided as well) but not the carbon and the battery life is terrible. Its the T470P. However, from the reviews I read people are saying that they are getting pretty good battery life for the new x1 gen 6 carbon.

With poor battery life - how much are you getting with let's say light use - word, responding to emails on outlook etc.

        • @theredblur: I don't think the Carbon has particularly high battery drain compared to other laptops in its league when it comes to normal operation. You'll probably get a good couple of hours with office type use.

The issue only really becomes apparent when people try to put it into sleep mode, where it doesn't preserve battery life as well as other laptops (it doesn't enter deep sleep so as to wake up quicker and be able to receive updates over the network). This form of sleep drains much more power than normal sleep and unfortunately, there is no option to hibernate (afaik).

  • Found this deal on ebay for the x1 carbon gen 6

Not sure if anyone might know of and seen anything cheaper out there currently?
