Will 'PENNY5' eBay Discount Code Work on a Used Item?

I am looking at buying an expensive second hand camera (>$1000) on eBay (auction). When I look at used items it constantly displays "Pay as little as AU$**** show me how" (linking to PENNY5 code). The terms and conditions of that code clearly state that it can only be used on brand new items.

The fact that I can see the 'Pay as little as' message when I look at used items makes me think the code should still work (despite contradicting the terms and conditions).

Has anyone managed to save 5% by using PENNY5 on a used item purchase??

There's usually a step to input the code before confirming you want to purchase. Try it and see.

    • How do I do that when it is an auction?
If the code isn't going to work then I'm not willing to bid as much.

      • Ah. You might have to just contact eBay then.

It'll work. Ebay systems don't differentiate between BIN/auction unless it's a different currency.

    • The bigger concern for me is whether it differentiates better new and used items?
The difference will save or cost me about $100

I can confirm it does. I used it on a set of used wheels last week and got the 5% discount.

    • You are the hero I've been searching for. Thank you.

No worries - glad I could help.

    • Wow this is great.

Damn I should use ebay maybe more often now when these discount deals come on..

I have usually reverted to gumtree for anything used which is most items besides maybe printer ink and some pc hardware, namely storage.

It will work up to three times. I have already used my allocation. :(

If you are looking at other items, best to wait to pay until you have accumulated a few items then you can apply to all the items won by making a single payment for everything. (Provided the other sellers are willing to wait).
