Positive Experience - Geardo

TLDR; these guys are good, go ahead and buy.

The Illiad Epic AKA 'Cool Story Bro' version.

It's not often we hear positive comments about companies (especially when we're usually dealing with the absolute lowest price retailers), though I had an experience with Geardo this week which I thought was exceptional (in a good way), and figured I'd write about it to help any other people out there trying to make a decision on where to buy from, especially where its something important/pricey or urgent.

So I was looking for a Xiaomi Mix 2s (Phone). My requirements were:

  • Had to be the genuine 'Global' version, which was tricky as I'd read many complaints from people getting chinese phones flashed with the 'Global' ROM, which breaks OTA updates. Often the packages would be opened, not factory sealed which was the tell-tale sign. So I needed confidence I would'nt get ripped on this.

  • Given the price range was $700+ AUD the store had to be reputable, but everyone I found on eBay had terrible reputation/scores and horror stories when reading the negative feedback. Usually I don't care about this (some of the reasons for negative feedback can be really dumb) but with such a $$$ purchase I was'nt going to buy from some store with a 96% rating!

  • I needed it QUICK! My existing phone (Xiaomi Note 2) had its LCD suddenly go weird after several years use (horizontal lines, dark areas, eventually going black after 10 seconds turned on) so I had no phone, and was in the middle of changing jobs so it was a bad time not to be contactable.

Eventually I found geardo.com.au and was impressed as they're fairly local to me and had a pickup option (though I couldn't use it this time due to work commitments). The postage options offered were Courier $9.99 and regular Australia Post $10.99 or something. I took Courier, although it was cheaper I figured it might be faster. No Express Post option unfortunately, but they appeared to be my best option, especially considering price (better than most or all on eBay surprisingly). In the ordering comments I wrote a small request asking if they could possibly post Express, and send me a PayPal bill for the extra, please please please.

Not long after I made the order I got a phone call confirming the details, and yep, we'll send Express no problem. The phone arrived the next day (actual Australia Post Express bag), didn't charge me a cent extra, super well packaged, genuine Global and unopened phone. Woohoo! And it's b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!

So yeah, these guys are good, recommended. To be a balanced critic, I'd have to say that I wish they had more Australian stock (especially of the Xiaomi stuff), and the ability to search specifically for aussie stock (I think even OzBargainers would pay extra to get it in 1-2 days?), also it's a bit weird they don't include pricing with GST until you see the cart, but whatever. Great service, legit stock, good pricing and range. More of this please :)
