Very hard to answer without knowing your personal circumstances - age, income, health, what you hope to get out of health insurance. All these factors affect the end price.

Not sure if you are trolling or not given your last post was “should I buy a bmw or a Camry?”

    • Yes I finally bought a camry and its not a troll:)

  • In my view, you need to try to judge your likelihood of using hospital cover including any day procedures. If you are very healthy you can go for a large excess to save money. Some funds do not charge a day procedure as a hospital stay. In terms of extras, if you can, add up everything you spent in the last year on dental, physio etc and see if you would have been better off with cover or not. Very hard to compare on extras, I know I use a lot of dental so I looked at what I would get back for each item number from each fund. If you call them , they will give you that information. Finally, remember you don't have to have both hospital and extras with the same provider.

  • Unless you're purely getting health insurance for tax purposes, avoid the junk policies (I.e. public hospital only, tons of exclusions).

If you're young and healthy, the main catch is whether or not you want pregnancy cover.

Otherwise look through the exclusions and see if there are any deal breakers.

In general terms, a not for profit fund should be better than a for profit (they don't have shareholders that they need to please).
