Is The Escort Smartcord Live Cable Worth It in Australia?

Firstly I live in Western Australia, 100% legal.

I just bought Escort Passport Max 360 Intl edition and I saw it has the accessory of the smartcord live which I can plug my mobile to the detector for extra GPS help from online database, question is, does it even work in Australia?

Thanks!

I would assume that it does work in Australia, but it would only be as good as its user base. From what I understand, this cord allows you to interface your phone to the detector and if your detector picks up a radar or you hit the “I found a radar” button, it will upload this information so that other users will also be alerted to where that radar is working.

The problem here is “user base”. You are relying on there being a substantial spread of active users for this thing to be effective. To more people that are out there giving live updates, the better the system will work. I notice this with similar apps, such as Waze. In the city where there are a lot of users, the system is good at alerting you. Go to an area where there is less users, then the system becomes a lot less functional.

The only other thing I have thought and may be worth mentioning, have you ever thought about actually obeying the road rules and driving to the speed limit? This is actually a free service. It doesn’t cost you anything and there is no app, cables or user base required. It’s 100% effective in stopping you getting speeeding tickets. Most vehicles these days come with built in speed signaling devices and manufacturers put them right in the drivers line of sight. They are quite easy to use. Car makers have also installed entertainment systems to help alleviate the tedium of being 30 seconds late…

Same. 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 mkII.

  • I paid $50 for the tom tom live radar notifications, it was a complete waste of money, not once did ever show me a reported radar, I even tried reporting one then driving back around the same spot 20 mins later no radar.
