Scoopon Customer Service Email, Possible SCAM

So since OzBargain is the place to post and verify whether an email is a scam. I purchased a voucher from ScoopOn with a credit card under my parents name for them, after doing so I receive an email with the voucher and another one from [email protected] asking for the following:
As your purchase is over the amount of $100, we always like to ensure that the purchase is legitimate, processed by yourself, the rightful owner of the Credit Card used.

To do this, we do request our customers to provide us with additional identification such as the last four digits of the credit card used, the country of origin and the expiry date.

I received a follow up email as I didnt reply and followed by an email today saying my purchase will be refunded within 5 business days.

Has anyone had the same experience?

My parents have already partially used the voucher so I told them to go ahead an refund me if they like as I will not be providing th is information via email.

    • Yeh i did get that lux owns scoopon however it seems abit odd them requesting that info via email. I would never give out any info like that via email normally.

I think what holdenmg is trying to convey here is that you should contact lux directly and ask them. It really doesn't matter if any of us have experienced this before: none of us can tell you whether the email you received is legitimate or not.

What they've asked for isn't really putting the account at any risk

  • I haven't, though I haven't used ScoopOn recently. Used to use them a lot more.

I'd report this to ScoopOn because:

    1. If it's a scammer maybe they can send out a PSA; and
    2. If it's an actual vendor, I'd hope ScoopOn has terms in their contract restricting vendors from asking for this type of information from customers.
    • In this case, it's 3. Scoopon's parent company.

Wait are you serious? Why do they not have a "[email protected]" kind of email address…?

Funny thing is the voucher confirmation was sent with a [email protected] but these emails for payment info were from luxeveryday which made it look suss

        • @ArabMoneeey: That's terrible business and IT security practice honestly, because it trains customers to accept strange looking emails from strange looking addresses as potentially valid.

        • @HighAndDry: exactly, I work in IT myself and I couldnt understand why they would do this. I certainly wont be purchasing from them again. On the bright side if they do refund then at least I got to use part of the voucher haha

    • Ok thats fine, there was no such reference to an order number or the item I had purchased therefore for me this raised further doubts regarding its legitimacy, I would like to request you provide more information privately via email before I will verify these details.
