Who's reputable for quality ADSL in 2018?

Hi guys,

Moving to a new property that doesn't yet have NBN. It's been a few years since I've had to look at naked ADSL2, what's the reputable company to go for? Do a lot of 4K streaming so quality is important. 500GB plus.

As a point of reference, currently on the My Republic 50 plan and out of contract. Assume I can use their modem for ADSL? Easiest would be to transfer to MR's ADSL plans but they don't provide it in the area while others do.

Cheers!

From a quick Google it looks like you need a minimum of 25 mbps to stream 4k video. It is very unlikely you will get this speed on ADSL.

    • Good point. Cable?

Yes if you can get it.

Nobody should be using ADSL in 2018 if possible

Ouch! What suburb are you moving to?
Recommend to try the following before ADSL:
    - Telstra Cable (55/5 or 125/5)
    - Optus Cable (30/2 or 100/2)
    - Uniti Wireless (100/40 but only Adelaide and Melbourne)
    - Any neighbours with NBN/cable you can share with? (you can check their addresses on nbn website)
    - Check what speed TPG predicts for ADSL. https://www.tpg.com.au/maps/ If less than 10 maybe consider Optus/Vividwireless 4G, but you'll need to be in a 2300mhz area to get 12/1 otherwise it's capped at 5/1, in either case won't be suitable for 4k

    • Moving to Alphington. NBN works across the road (literally) in Fairfield but no connection to my place. NBNCo says connection expected early 2019 (gain of salt) so now I'm thinking doing a wireless option for a couple of months until it comes through.

  • adsl cares a lot more about the state of the phone cabling and distance from the exchange

  • I moved to Tassie a few months ago & I could only get ADSL
So I asked https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/ to get me connected
they sent Helstra to hook me up, the tech said there were no ports left & took off without telling me
I am now on skyMuster satellite
but the next few towns down the line are getting FTTN ATM, so ports should free up soon
so I can then get https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/ to finally hook me up to ADSL
more data & better ping times than with satellite
give Aussie Broadband a try for your ADSL, they are an Australian company
