Asian TV Box Suggestions

This is a bit of a niche question for anyone who watches Asian telly.

I've used a TVPad 4 for yonks, it needs to be replaced. What is the current equivalent?

Ideally has HK shows, has canto movies, etc. That's what really set the TVpad apart in its golden years (there used to be a deal for it every month on ozb). I've tabao'd a Xiaomi box and the shows are all mainland and most importantly signal is pretty weak.

Edit: looks like EVpad is the solution.
Edit 2: Htv might be the true successor.

  • Do you need English subtitles? You will need to sideload Android apps onto the Xiaomi box. I can't tell you what the app is called, not because I don't want to but because I don't read Chinese. I can't remember where I downloaded it from now. Try some of these. https://forums.redflagdeals.com/chinese-apps-android-tv-2173…

    • I'm 2nd gen Cantonese, wife and in laws are first gen. EVpad as suggested by edsanwong below looks like what I'm after.

The difference between xiaomi and this is xiaomi is generally mainland shows only. No politics here just geo programming.

  • Fetch Tv?

  • Evpad

    • This looks legit. Where'd you get it from? Locally or order online?

      • We got it when we in KL.
Check facebook evpad group. Someone sells in Melb from FB

  • My MIL is here visiting and she brought a TVB box with her. It's slow but it allows her to watch stuff. I have no idea if it's fits your requirements, but it's certainly cantonese, I can tell that much.

Usage wise, all I needed to do was sign it in to our home wifi.

Haha this is also mainly for the in laws. I barely have enough time for Netflix let alone 70 episode concubine battle monstrosities.

      • Holy smokes. I just discovered what this "70 episode concubine battle monstrosities" thing that you speak of…. Apparently very very popular.

There's 2 of them on right now about two characters in the same timeline. So it's really 140 episodes.

          Yeah it's unreal mate.

Protip: To impress your Mrs, download a camera app called Pitu, it does a deepfake AI facial recognition thing, puts her face on heaps of TV characters including the girls from these shows, they love it.

Parents previously used TVPad until the service stopped. Then it got replaced with BlueTV. This was just stopped recently.

Parents have resorted to using ww2.icdrama.se It streams online like youtube. Its free because of the ads.

Alternatively I'm currently using HTV. Still working and happy to answer questions.

    • Yep gotcha, had my tvpad replaced with bluetv some time ago, the mrs started complaining about it not working recently.

Our go around so far has been using the TV browser to go to v.localau.com, but that has minimal canto stuff and zero Taiwanese content.

How did you purchase and set up htv?

HTV has majority mainland china channels and VOD. There is enough cantonese content, however takes a bit longer to be updated.

We bought ours via ebay as part of the 20% off sales. It just so happened it worked out cheaper when combined with TRS 10% GST refund.

Usually setup is quite easy, just need to install the relevant app within the supplied apps store to get the Chinese channels. There's plenty of youtube videos that you can refer to if you get stuck.

Very simple to use if coming from a TVPad and alike background.
