Sonos Does Not Work with Belong ADSL Modem

I was with TPG broadband for years and decided to try Belong until we get NBN next year, if there are no further delays…Although I've heard mixed reviews about Belong we managed to get connected pretty quickly and have not had any dropouts plus the speeds are better.

However when I tried to hook up our Sonos, which we've also had for years, it would not connect. Long story short I found out the Belong modem needs multi tasking or IGMP but they do not have this feature on their modems.

Has anyone else come across this issue or have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Buy a cheap router, connect it to the modem and set the modem to bridge mode. Then connect the Sonos to the router.

    • I thought this was possible I asked my brother-in-law who I thought was tech savvy but he didn't think it was doable.

I've still got my old Netgear so I will do that, thanks. How do I set the modem to bridge mode though?

Get a Sonos Bridge. They were giving them away a few years ago so you should be able to find some on ebay. Creates a dedicated Sonos network which is much better in my opinion.

    • Sorry I should have mentioned I have the bridge setup and that doesn't work either.

  • That's why only a new router will work. You can pick one up for $40-50.

    • Yeah that’s what I did last night but don’t understand why the Sonos Specialist didn’t suggest that when I first spoke to them about the issue?!?

  • Sorry if this is obvious, or you've already tried, but are you connecting on the 2.4ghz or 5ghz?

I'm with Belong and couldnt connect my sonos' either, until I switched to the 2.4ghz network.

    Good luck

    • Oh good advice, thanks. I would have tried both if it was an option but I don't remember having an option to choose on the Sonos. How do I do that?
