I Need to Buy New Lenses for My Glass Frame, What Are My Options?

Hello,
You guys have always been such a help for someone who is not living in Australia for very long.

I need some help and guidance on where can I get good deals on lens for my glasses? I have bought a frame already. I have only heard of SpecSavers and few others that I see in the city.

I had my eyes checked recently at Specsavers, and they had recommended to buy thin-cut (or they used some similar term).

Can you guys please guide me if you have any experience.

Thank you.

Expanding on this - buy them online. What costs me $500 in a physical store costs me $100 online (strong prescription).

Go back to specsavers, ask for your prescription. They are obliged to tell you, even if they initially resist. (I've had specsavers customer service people attempt angle the monitor away so I couldn't read my own prescription, but they must tell you).

      • Thank you that is helpful!!

      • +1 for Clearly.

Literally returned 3 pairs before sticking with the one i ended up liking.

Sure it takes a bit of time for the return process but i'm fine with that given the price

  • Go ask around a few more other optometrists.

If you have extras on health insurance then you can claim a portion if not all back as well.

My advice is dependent upon the quality of your vision. If you require multi-focal lenses I would still go through a bricks and mortar store like an OPSM or SS to get the lenses, you will be measured more accurately so you will likely have less issues with the script in the lenses.

If its single vision then online should be a decent enough choice.

If you already have a new frame which you want to use you can walk into an OPSM store and they will send the frame off and have the lenses can be cut to the shape of your frame, I know Specsavers technically offer that service too, but they seem a lot less keen to explore that avenue (full disclosure: I work for OPSM)

    Good luck.

    • Since you working in OPSM, what is the best way to check for deals without walking to the store. Waiting for next Rayban 50% off sale ;)

      • Sign up to the marketing emails. They will spam you soon enough :)

Dont hold your breath for 50% off RayBan. Although if you are a medibank member or HBF you can get some RayBans on No Gap which is a good deal. Just pick any frame for $150 or less and you can ask for no gap complete job.

        • aww no love for HCF

        • @boomramada: I think we'd love to offer this to HCF. They're not keen is my understanding. You should give them feedback 😉

    • thank you, I will be going there after work. I was told when I got my prescription to wherever I get the lenses from, tell them that I want thin glass since I have a high power.
Can you please tell me roughly how much would that be?
