Which Dash Cam Would You Prefer? Poll and VAVA Dashcam & RAVPower USB Car Charger Giveaway

Whats all this about?

Recently, I have been posting deals for Sunvalley-Brands. If you are not aware, Sunvalley owns and manufactures the TaoTronics, RAVPower, Vava, HooToo, Sable, & Anjou brands. They sell highly rated, quality products and are very customer focused. They have made over 30 million sales worldwide.

Their products are mainly sold and fulfilled through Amazon and they are in the process of, cautiously, joining the Australian market. They currently have over 30 products in their Amazon AU store but have over 1000 items in the Amazon US store

They will be adding more and more to their AU store but need to make the right choices.

Now, Sunvalley have two different VAVA Dash Cams for sale but for logistical reasons they just want to concentrate on one for now. They will be doing a Big future sale with a great price for OzBargain. They have asked me for my opinion as to which I think they should concentrate on and I have given them my opinion but I have suggested that they ask the OzBargain Community itself through a forum post and a poll. I further suggested that they offer a Dash Cam as a giveaway, to encourage members to vote.

They got back to me and said 'Setting up a poll would be a good idea, can we give away 1pcs Dash Cam (Whichever wins in the poll) and 5pcs car chargers as the prizes for this poll so more people will win?'

So, here I am making a Forum Post and a Poll and I have 1 VAVA Dash Cam and 5 RAVPower USB Car Chargers to give away.

So, how are they different?

Well, first let me tell you how they are the same.

  • They both have the same Unique Design, with a magnetic mount which allows you to turn the camera a full 360° so you can point it where the action is.
  • 155° Wide-Angle lens & Microphone covers up to 5 car lanes and can records in-car conversations. Contains 6 glass lenses and an infrared lens for crisp captures of number plates.
  • They feature a 320mAh Battery which allows the 3-axis G-sensor to activate and start recording footage even in parking mode.
  • Tech specs include: NT96663 CPU, 2GB Ram, Wifi & 2.4g Wireless Connections & supports a Micro SD Card up to 128GB (max).
  • iOS & Android Mobile App: Instant preview, download, edit, share videos with your friends.
  • Using Wifi you can connect your phone to the Dash Cam to use as a display.

So, how are they different?

The VAVA VD005 Dash Cam has a resolution of 2560*1440/30fps and uses a OV4689 CMOS Sensor. You can see a Youtube review of this version here

The VAVA CD001 Dash Cam has a resolution of 1920*1080/60fps and uses a Sony IMX291, 1/2.8 in Sensor. It also comes with a GPS module and a Remote Snapshot Button. You can see a Youtube review of this version here

Ok then, how do I enter?

Simply vote in the poll and then leave a comment saying which VAVA Dash Cam you would prefer and why.
The member who we judge to have left the best qualifying comment will win whichever VAVA Dash Cam that wins the poll.
We will then choose 5 members who left qualifying comments at random as winners of the RAVPower USB Car Chargers.

And when will I know if I have won?

The poll will run til next Wednesday, the 19th of September. When it closes we will announce the winners in this post and will private message them to get their delivery details.

EDIT: A big THANKYOU to everybody who entered, the SunValley Rep had a very hard time choosing the winner's

I would like to congratulate HighAndDry who is the winner of the VAVA 1080p/60fps CD001 Dash Cam, which easily won the poll as preferred Dash Cam

I would also like to congratluate Spackbace, Allan, sky blu, adr8 & Minotaur who walk away with the RAVPower USB Car Chargers

I would personally like to thank Clear for his valuable assistance, Scotty for approving and everybody who entered and supported this Poll

  • CD001 - Has better frame rate even though lower resolution so video should be smoother. Also GPS module useful to precisely log where/when something happens.

  • CD001 - Satisfactory picture quality in comparison, but with the handy addition of GPS!

  • CD001 - the better framerate is key, forget the higher resolution of the other. Gps logging is pretty vital too.

I work in car sales, and actually just today had the Blackvue rep giving training on theirs, with similar spec and it really sounded the part, so I'd be really curious to see how these compare to a name brand product like that

  • CD001 - GPS logging is critical for me. I use it as proof of mileage when claiming car expenses.

  • CD001

1080p is good enough to see number plates in most situations and the higher frame rate is more important for outputting smooth video

  • Prefer the VD005 - when capturing footage, more detail in resolution in license plate recognition is more important than capturing more frame rate. Most security cameras are also running lower frame rates. Also it seems like you can change settings to 1080p 60fps so you get both functions in one.

It also has better night videos which is also very important compared to the other model.

In my experience GPS logging isn't as important than capturing footage of what happens, if something happens. (Haven't had to supply any footage yet just close calls)

My only issue is whether these products can stand the heat of Australia. I know with Blackvue they perform well even in 40 degree weather whereas some other cheaper dash cams start malfunctioning in heat.

Experience: 10 year use of Blackvue cameras

CD001 - The Sony IMX291 is a far better sensor and provides much clearer footage than the OV4689. The Sony sensor particularly excels at night where you can clearly see the surrounds and number plates. Resolution in the VD005 isn't important either as that can be interpolated easily and the higher framerate in the CD001 will capture more action due to the 60fps.

The addition of GPS assists in tracking your route and where incidents occurred. Last of all you don't want to get roasted by the Dashcam Owners Australia community for having shoddy dashcam footage.

We’ve been using two a119s, two a118 and a generic 4” as daily drivers for 20 months. We would be more than happy to road test the cd001 24/7 now that Sydney is starting to get warm again.

  • I think the GPS in CD001 is a very useful feature and what I would be looking for.

  • CD001 - because of more fps and GPS. But ultimately the price is what would tip me towards which one

  • I am going to say CD001 as well. I think 1080p is more than sufficient for most, file size will be smaller, better quality picture with the Sony sensor, plus the benefits of GPS.

  • Viofo A119 Pro with GPS. 1080@60fps with 7 lense camera. Runs on capacitors. Parking mode. The OzB eneloop of dashcams…

    • +1

Second that, great dashcam for the quality and price

  • Definitely the CD001 Dash Cam FTW because of the superior sensor. Whatever it lacks in resolution compared to VD005, it compensates with better frame rate too. The GPS logging feature is just extra icing on top!

  • CD001. Must be good judging from the comments

  • CD001 because it has GPS and the Sony sensor for clearer images IMO.

  • CD001 for the Sony sensor and 60FPS.

  • I prefer the CD001 Dash Cam because of the remote snapshot button.

  • 60FPS, Sony sensor, GPS module.

    VAVA CD001 all the way!

  • CD001 has a better sensor which will make a difference in low light, the better frame rate means higher shutter speeds, which will mean better ability to grab frames with less blurry. The GPS on top is a nice extra as well.

  • CD001 because of

A)The remote snapshot button- controlling certain aspects of the device without having to take my eyes of the road is a big plus

B)Low light performance- looks a little sharper than the VD005

  • CD001 - the higher frame rate is more important than the extra resolution

  • To be honest, neither.

The 360 rotation IMO is a useless feature. Too easy for it to be pointing the wrong way when it matters. Make it dual camera so that it captures both directions at once.

  • Quick thoughts (CD001 is the better one):

    1. VD005's one advantage seems to be the 2K resolution, but in a dashcam clarity, low-light performance and even software processing for legibility are more important, so higher resolution past 1080p is, to me at least, not necessary.

    2. By all accounts and all videos, the Sony sensor in the CD001 is better or equal in all respects other than resolution (60fps, better low light, better overall clarity), which makes the CD001 better.

    3. The CD001 also has GPS tracking which is always a plus, even if it's not essential, but considering the two dashcams are equally priced this also makes the CD001 better.

    4. The CD001 also has a snapshot button, which again might not be essential but at the same price-point is a definite plus too.

  • CD001

It's almost unanimous (30 to 1 at time of posting). Double the frame rate is more important than 33% increase in vertical resolution.

  • I don't know much about dashcams, but it seems like GPS would be an important feature, so I'm voting like almost everyone else for the CD001

  • My current dashcam is 1080p30. I don't think that 1440p would be that much more advantageous. I'd be more inclined to go the CD001. 60fps will obviously use a lot more room on your SD card though, so you'd need a higher capacity card. As has also been mentioned, the sensor is also superior.

  • CD001 - Better frame rate for smooth video and GPS that can be used for many purposes. The Sony sensor is a winner by all accounts.

  • CD001 for better FPS

  • I prefer CD001 - higher FPS, and GPS. Sony sensor has a better reputation. Resolution is good enough for number plate recognition.

  • CD001

  • CD001 would be my pick, higher frame rate and Sony sensor make it a better choice. Also, the addition of GPS and handy remote snapshot button, the CD001 is an overall better combo when compared to the VD005.

  • VAVA CD001 Dash Cam
although only 1080p the sony sensor is very reliable and good.

  • CD001 is my best choice because it has GPS which may be important for evidence. Moreover, the improved frame rate is also a very good feature especially for recording when the vehicle is moving at a high velocity. Thank you.

  • The CD001 Dash Cam due to the Sony Sensor. It also appears to have great reviews online including the AMAZON USA website.

  • The CD001 for its better frame rate, so your footage is more likely to be purchased by TV producers and shown on "Australia's Stupidest Drivers". TV shows don't like jumpy videos and no station broadcasts in 2560x1440 anyway.
