Help with Laptop Selection Please

Hey guys, first time poster long time lurker here. Im in the market for a new laptop for some light gaming and programming, and was stuck between these two options. Basically, would a GTX 1050Ti with 16 gb ram and i7 be better then a 8gb ram with i5 and gtx 1060 for gaming, for the price? Thanks.
GTX 1060 model: https://www.umart.com.au/Asus-FX503VM-ED191T-ROG-i5-7300HQ-8… ($1395)
GTX 1050 Ti model plus customized extra ram: https://www.affordablelaptops.com.au/contents/en-us/p3474_me… ($1358)

Thanks.

1060 hands down for gaming. You saw the 1k 1050ti laptop on main page through ebay sale?

    • Nope, that one is a metabox

Be honest about what you're going to use it for most of the time. Also keep in mind that the 1050 Ti model has no OS, so will be more expensive unless you have a cheaper method in mind that paying an extra $139 (e.g. reddit ms software share.)

    CPU:
The i7 is significantly more powerful:

How much CPU power are you going to need for what you're doing?

    Memory:
    What do you really need?
Most users barely use more than 3gb for common desktop tasks, and most "light" gamers rarely will go above 8gb. Using an SSD for paging means you won't experience a noticeable slowdown any time your system requests above 8gb. Only care about 16gb if you know you're going to actually need it IMO.

    SSD:
    128gb vs 256gb.
I think you'll find 128gb pretty stifling, so IMO you would be better served upgrading the SSD size than the memory.

If you're going to be gaming mostly, then the 1060 easily.
If you're going to be need a fast CPU for desktop applications, then the 1050 Ti model.

I agree with the part about the SSD. My old laptop only had 128GB storage and I was constantly running out of space, I had to migrate all my media to an external drive. I think the OP should add a HDD to the Metabox or if they choose the ASUS and have the know-how, buy a separate HDD, open up the back, and add it (some reviews of the ASUS mention both a HDD and a SSD, so I assume this specific model will have an empty slot for the HDD).
