You can data bank. They have the best international call pack

Telstra network being better than Optus and Vodafone is a big reason

    • Yeah when I was with Optus I couldn't get a signal in my work building and now I get a signal everywhere except in specific places

    • Infinite data banking: this effectively gives you more GB of data since you can use 100% of your allowance
    • Data gifting: this means you can buy half price sims and easily move the data to your main account, or manage allowances between family members
    • no automatic topups: the worst part of being on a plan is when you run out of data with only a few hours to go until the new period begins, and they debit you $10 and you don't even have time to use the gb they forced you to buy! And their notifications are so slow! They don't tell you you're nearly out of data until the next day or later. If they told you at the time you could have stopped using it and connected to WiFi or just gone without.
    • topups are cheaper: $10/2GB unlike the $10/1GB of all other plans. But it is even cheaper to just buy a new sim and gift the data across - since you get infinite data banking you'll never lose any of it.
    • you are never without internet: even if you manage to run out of data, you get shaped access. So you won't get stuck with no google maps etc.

I think you'd have to be crazy NOT to be with Belong (although for very high data usage some other plans are more attractive)

I think Quantumcat summed up everything.

Without googling to see if my information is up-to-date, the only negatives I know of are:
      (i) no option for international roaming;
(ii) no option for traditional Voicemail (must be converted to text)

The reason I'm not on Belong is because I scored one of those Amaysim deals that gave me 6 renewals for less than $2 a month. When I don't need much data, the absolute monthly cost trumps all other features. Introducing more plan inclusions to avoid lowering the cost of the cheapest plans (and therefore the cost of living) is one of my gripes with the mobile industry.

Belong's month-to-month pricing might not compete with 12 month deals from other providers but I really hate locking myself into anything in life. Of course 9 times out of 10 I don't change plans and I keep on living the same life ("what if I get asked to man a mission to Mars and I've prepaid a Kogan plan for nothing!").

      • I really hate locking myself into anything in life

        Including marriage?

    • Is there VoLTE?

When it comes to cheap plans, plans that don't auto enable that stupid extra data stuff are definitely better.

    Voicemail. Please then I'd join

    • ^^^ this. If you have a Belong SIM in a dual SIM Phone as a data-only second SIM, or in a mobile WiFi hotspot, then it's not an issue. But if you want to use it in a bog standard single-SIM mobile, the lack of voicemail becomes a PITA.

I haven't tried it, but you could probably set things up so that if your phone isn't answered then divert to another number, which is associated with a long life cheap sim that includes voice mail. You keep this other phone at home and just use it as an answering machine (hello 1990s!). You should still see a missed call notification on your main phone so you won't miss out on knowing they called while you're out and about.

I bought a few $40 sims at half price from Officeworks to load data, gift, and then throw away (every few weeks coles, Auspost, JB is selling the sims for half price). Use your own referral code from your primary sim card to activate the throw away sim (get $20 credit on your primary sim + the throw away sim).

Activate the sim on the $40 plan any day that isn't the 4th, 12th, 20th, 28th and get 15gb, then another 15gb on the next billing day. Gift 30gb data to primary sim. As soon as I've gifted my 30gb I open a support ticket to cancel this sim.

My regular sim receives the $20 credit which pays for 2 months on $10/month.

It takes a small amount of time to do, but essentially I'm only spending $10/month for 16gb/month, for up to 20 months (up to 10 referrals can be made).

Also, my wife and son are on Belong too, so I do the same process for their sims and we can share data if someone does run out. All for $10/month each!

Only downside will be if Belong does a dodgy and changes their T&C regarding gifting/unlimited data bank.

Also I'm considered buying the $5 sim ($10 sim at half price from coles) and activate and get $20 referral credit for my primary sim. Essentially means it'll cost me $2.50/month, and I don't need the extra data as I've still got +50gb in the data bank.

Downgrade the "throw away" sim and the $20 credit gives you an additional 2 months on that sim (1gb per month) on the $10 plan which you can also gift across. Cancel after the third month.

    • Just curious how you cancel these throw away sims?
There doesn't seem to be any way to do this?

      • Go into the Support menu and type into the search bar "cancel". Then choose the first solution "how do I cancel my mobile service?". Then down the bottom of that solution is has a green button "create support request".

Create a support request and tell them you want the service cancelled. It usually gets cancelled within a few hours.

        • Thank You.

        • thanks alot for important info..any updates regarding this?

    • i can't see the refer a friend for mobile anymore, where's that?

      • Scroll to the bottom of dashboard and click on "introduce a friend".

    • Need some guidance: Are you using different email's and Cards for payments for referral sims. What about the address.

Just curious if same email, residential address and single paypal can be used?

Also, if you don't need the data, why the need of $5 sim etc.. just order a new sim and it comes free and the referral credit covers the first 2 months even on new sim ?

      • I use different email but same name, address and credit card. Takes a minute to set up a new gmail.

If you order a free sim you don't get the $20 referral until you activate the sim by purchasing a plan. So minimum cost will be $10, as opposed to the $5 buying it half price ($5 sim comes with the $10 credit already on it).

        • I have recently done that. Used ozbargain referral to get a free sim and the activated it. I did not pay anything. The $10 plan cost was taken from the $20 credit. There was only $1 authorization on the card.

So it worked for me. Did you try that?

          • +1

@randomstuff: Oh nice one! Thanks for the tip (orders several free sims)

    • When you activating the throw away SIM card do you create the same name as the main account?

And when do you see the $20 bonus credit to your account?

      • +1

Yes I use the same name, no issues.

Usually takes about 10 min for them to activate an account (but sometimes a bit longer), the $20 comes up immediately after that, can check for it under the "Manage" tab, then select "History".

        • ah thanks for your clarification, I can see a line which says
          Introduce a friend - credited $20
          8/10/2018

If I refer a few more throw away sim then it would show more of these lines?

          • @bibimbap: Correct. It can be a bit confusing, but I haven't had any issues with them applying the credit.

    • i just figure this out stacking primary sims with the primary account referral code…i'm going to try this out in 3 months.

anyone have problem transfer data to main phone number and cancel throwaway sims?

T&C regarding gifting/unlimited data bank and referral still the same? no changes?

  • Not much to recommend over the option of twenty gigabytes delivered by dedicated metro 4G+ for 20 a mo or so?

  • With the $25 kit being only $10 at Coles at the moment, is it best to get multiple of these kits?? Rather than the $40 kit for $20?

  • So once you have used up your 10 friend referrals, and used up the credit gained from these, are you able to start up a new belong sim and start the process again? If so how do you do it and also retain you phone number?

If this doesn't work, will you have to join a new company for one month and then come back to belong a month later in order to be able to get a fresh 10 friend referrals (plus the join referral)?

  • i have tried friend referral method and got 8 months 75GB-80GB+ for about $25 which currently i'm at…$12-$15 of $40 credit as main and $10 for $25 credit sims as Data which will transfer to main phone number.
