iPhone 6s for The Teenager in The House

Hi, now that the new iPhones are out I cannot seem to find any deals on old new iPhone 6s, don't want to buy an expensive iphone that doesn't come with a earphone plug and the larger screen would suit as well.
Cheers

They were officially discountinued this morning.

Why is a headphone jack so important ? Bluetooth headphones are cheap.

    Aim for a 7+

It’s a 2017 phone so it’ll get updates for a couple of years. The 6S is 3 years old now.

    • It's for my teenager, I don't feel I can justify buying an expensive phone :(

No need to sad-face about it - growing up we either used a basic phone our parents bought, or saved up our own money, from birthdays or weekend jobs - to buy our own.

        • My first mobile device was a Motorola pager we were given when I first started work. This was back in the '80s. :p

@monsignor: I still remember having only so much money that I had to choose between a cool flip phone with basically no features, or an utter brick of a Nokia but that could play music and games.

        • @HighAndDry: I chose the Nokia.

        • @monsignor: So did I!

        • @HighAndDry: Only because my name-dropping poseur of an ex-brother-in-law owned a Motorola.

          @monsignor:

I always wanted a pager that had a big lcd screen, they seemed so cutting edge!

Then get a used one off gumtree.

7+ prices will come down a bit this week with the launch of the new phones.

Maybe start with your budget ?

It might be hard to find stock. You can probably find a good deal for a second hand model on eBay.
For some reason finding a 6 is easier than a 6s.
I can say that the 6s is still a great phone and doesn't suffer any lag.

Plenty of places still selling 'em - you just can't buy them directly from Apple.

I had to buy my own phone when I started university. Never had one before that.

Buy them second hand on eBay or Gumtree. Just look for one that comes with all the accessories and box.

You might be waiting until the XR iPhone hits the shelves in late October for prices to really crater though. Right now you can get a second hand iPhone 6S for about $250. It should go down to $200 in about 2 months.

Before the end of the year you can get the battery replaced for $29 by Apple. That then negates the age of the device. It should continue getting updates for iOS for at least 4 more years by my estimates, since it shares the same screen resolution as the iPhone 7. iPhone 5S is still getting iOS 12!

Places like Ozsale have them pretty cheap for Grade A refurb, around $250-300

I grabbed my wife a brand-new Iphone SE (same specs as 6S but smaller) on Ozsale for i think $400

If you do this, make SURE that Find my iPhone is disabled and test the phone works with your SIM. Preferably, avoid buying expensive items off Gumtree.

Even discounted it will take most teenagers quite a while to save up for the Apple prices.
My younger teens decided they would rather prioritise other things and bought cheap androids, my big girl saved money from work to get an iPhone se, but she has given up upgrading it as the prices are now so absurd.

  • Thanks guys, it seems I may have to buy a second hand one.

I'm about to sell my daughters 6s as it is a pain to use. Battery is acting up, screen cracked. My daughter has been playing with my miezu 6 note and wants one as a replacement phone.

Op-why an iPhone? Why not an Android? 6note is available for <$200 delivered. Great phone.

    • Everyone in the family have an iphone and are heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem

  • Quick question, has anyone had dealings with mydeal.com.au ?

Yep - bought one thing from them (a shower head) a couple of years ago and it came quickly & well packaged. I don't think there should be an issue using them, and if you register with them I think you get a $10 credit. Just carefully read the 'phone description - they should note if it's refurbished and if so, what grade it might be. I'd avoid the lower grade handsets as the touch id may not work - even if you don't plan to use it, it also indicates the screen has probably been replaced and possibly done so by someone with no idea how to do it properly so a) there might be other issues with missing bits inside and b) the screen may be poor quality (dim/colour casts/etc).
