FYI: Cashrewards Excludes GST When Calculating Cashback

Not seeking to start any drama, just an FYI post, I was honestly not aware of this fact but it’s here in the Ts&Cs:

My purchase and Cashback have both been reported as lower than expected?
As advised, most stores will only pay Cashback on the purchase price excluding GST and shipping, delivery and any other such costs. This mostly explains why you can have a lower purchase amount reported and consequently receive a lower Cashback amount.

Bought this yesterday for $400, mistakenly expected $24 cashback (6%), got the tracking email for $21.81 cashback basing on a sale value of $363.64.

Basing on some of the comments I’m probably not the only one assuming the wrong thing hence this post.

    yep, I think this is a recent 'thing' in terms of the calcs.

    I had a look at an email from a few months ago and it had that note too, but the reward was not GST exclusive

  • Hmm 36/400 =/= 0.06

    Considering what GST actually is it makes a lot of sense why you're not getting cashback on it.

  • In CR terms condition:
    You acknowledge and agree that any reward that is the subject of any Cashrewards Claim:

    is payable only on the purchase value of the applicable Qualifying Transaction less freight, delivery, taxes and GST;

  • What about Shopback?

    • Same

  • I always wondered, does Aliexpress cashback include shipping costs?
    Because then it would be more worth it to buy something for the price of $50 with "free shipping" instead of paying 30$ for the same item and $20 for shipping.

      Pretty sure shipping cost isn’t included.
      And yes, buying something with free shipping included would work out better in terms of cashback and/or discount codes (which almost always exclude postage cost).
