Can Anyone Recommend an Affordable Replica of The Eames Chair?

Might look into getting an authentic Eames much later to have as a family heirloom. Was hoping to get a replica for now. During times of leisure, I hope to sit back with my pair of earspeakers and immerse myself with the strong vocals of Whitney Houston and Beyoncé in FLAC form. Max spend would be 1.5k for that replica.

Cheapest that was is more than double OP's budget.

  • Has been recently discussed here

Hmmm didn’t see. However it’s been two months and discussion didn’t go anywhere. Also OP didn’t specify needs but I feel his are sub 500 - I’m specifying a budget that is three times that

      • My budget was up to $3k for 2 chairs, I am female, and I decided not to buy because one of the people using the chairs is quite tall and they are not suitable.

        • What did you go with?

  • This one looks good
    https://www.templeandwebster.com.au/Eames-Classic-Replica-Lo…

Company seems to have good reviews and a 30 day return policy.

  • Aldi seem to occasionally do them for ~$250

    • I keep hearing how uncomfortable they are.

      • Well, they'll be the same as all the other replicas - sourced from China.

      • They're actually not that comfortable. They look amazing but there are many better options when it comes to comfort.

Check out Stressless. May actually be more expensive than the Eames though.

        • Any specific suggestions?

        • @JuliusSeizure:
Buy an Ikea Poang ($500ish for leather) and save for a Stressless (~$4,500).

Cheap replicas are a waste of materials and space. At $1.5k, you're likely to buy a "premium" replica, ie a cheap one with a hiked up price.

@tshow: Hey thanks for your suggestions, I'll look into the Poang and Stressless tomorrow.

        • @tshow: Tried out the stressless this morning. A very comfy chair indeed.

        • @JuliusSeizure:
It's a wallet killer. The prices indicated is for the basic leather. For full grain leather, it's a fair bit more.

  • How tall are you op?

    • 1.78m

      • You might want to sit in one of these before buying. I am way too tall for them, you might be able to get away with it. I reckon you might be on the upper limit.

        • Ah have tried one. Absolutely love it. Cousin was lucky enough to be lucky few to pick one up from Costco

  • My parents got a few of the ALDI ones when they were $249 I think. No one sits in them, they are not that great. Style over function.

Now these are comfortable for lounging around: https://www.cobracane.com.au/product-category/cane-furniture…

    • So many options…

    • I’m posting this comment as I test a papasan. It is so comfortable. I love rolling into a ball in bed and this chair is perfect for accomodating my trait. I’m so so confused….is this already the end of my journey?

  • Wow, a replica for $1500? The real deal is really that much more expensive? I had no idea, I figured 1k for the real thing but looks like it's 5-6k USD, no wonder my husband wants to ship his to Australia rather than sell it, we'd never be able to afford another!

    • Definitely give your husband the benefit of the doubt from now on. :p

I classify myself as a shrewd spender but get pretty serious about my leisure. If it is a very good 1500 dollar chair, I’ll be willing to spend that much.

How much did your husband get his for?

  • Bought one yrs ago. '03, I think…

It really is not that comfortable.

    • The real thing?

      • Replica. Think I paid about $500 odd for it… Still looks great though.

  • If you aren’t sold on the exact look these guys have comfortable chairs that are similar setup

Get the replica. In a few generations they wont know the difference.

Tbh, everything is now a replica unless it’s one Eames made himself.

  • Think I'll hold off from a purchase for now. Will re-evaluate my situation in a few months time. I'll try to put more time into research and testing.

    • Hey - just following up on your purchase, did you end up making one?
