Comparison of Budget Pre-Built Gaming Desktops

Hey all,

I'm in the market for a reasonably priced/decent value point gaming PC. I'd like to be able to play overwatch with decent performance on lowish (or hopefully mid range or better settings)

I am not looking to build my own, looking to purchase a prebuilt tower. I have been looking at the recent Dell towers that are 20% off on ebay.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Inspiron-Gaming-PC-Desktop-Intel…

$1108 after discount and cashback

I did some further searching and found this unit which seems comparable to me (fairly noobish with the tech spec stuff)

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-i5-8400-120GB-1TB-8GB-DDR4…

Which is $711.81 after 10% discount and cashback
Could anyone please drop me their opinions on which way I should go, am I missing some large problem with the cheaper setup?

Edit: looks like it is sold out but here are the specs from the $711 second unit
.

    What a mess to read

    • Yeah, I had paragraphs in my original post but it came out like this. How do I add line breaks/paragraphs?

  • "Components: Your system will ship with components from the following leading brands, depending on available stock:"

This is something all system builders will do, they will use whatever is available and at the lowest cost price to build a PC that meets your specifications.

the brand of your computer parts generally don't matter much. The one part that does matter quite a bit is the brand of the power supply since there is a wide variance of quality between one brand to another — (i.e Techfast sounds like a generic Chinese OEM). BIOSTAR is also a motherboard brand that doesn't have much market or mindshare in Australia.

With prebuild options and ordering over eBay you'll want to communicate to your seller that you want a certain brand but I guess there probably isn't a way to get them to hold their promise to use only "good brands" unless you want to pay the extra money and choose the part specifically as a component to build the PC with.

  • Why are you so set on pre builts? Any computer shop will assemble any parts your want, with a warranty. You'll pay for assembly sure, but you'll get the parts you want.

Almost all pre builts use shitty PSU and cheap cases.

You can of course install windows yourself.

  • Any particular reason you want a pre-built?
