Crazy Neighbour Is Slashing Tyres

Asking for a friend.

My mate was car-minding and parked the car on the street. After a couple of nights, two tyres got slashed. It was a pain in the butt, but they just wrote it off as vandalism.

Fast forward a few weeks and they parked their own car in the same spot. After the second night, my mate is about to drive to work when she notices two tyres slashed (same side, on the curbside). She was pretty upset and calling her partner, when the dude comes out of the house directly outside where her car was "checking" on the commotion. Dude says "oh must be the druggos around here" with a smug look on his face.

Reported to the popo, but unless she catch him in the act there's not much they can/will do.

So now turning to our great ozb community, what are the options? Bikies might not be an option in case they are Bikies themselves.

Install High Resolution Camera from the home facing the car and catch them. Also install rear and forward dashcams in the car when they cross the road. I recommend installing multiple cameras on your property facing down either side of the street & footpath to see where they leave.

    • Borrow two cars from friends or family
Place dashcam's that can record from a safe distance, so that whoever is Slashing Tyres does not target the borrowed cars
Once the culprit's act is caught on cam, report to police.

    • Better than bikies:

Buy a cheap, registered car or trailer for cash and leave it there in a legal position for his amusement. Record the attacker doing his worst with other car's camera. Make sure you and another person witness the incident and record it in your diaries.

Provide recording to the Police and ask them to press charges, whilst leaving the car there with the slashed tyres, it will take ages for the council to take it in the meantime you can laugh every time you see him getting more irate.

      Priceless.

Then attend Court to ask for damages caused, or wait for the day the Sheriff comes to begin repossessions.

Put it all on social media, FTW

  • How cheap the racist acting these days.

    • She was the runner up.

    Asking for a friend.

Plot twist: OP slashed his neighbour's tyres and wants to cover off other ways he/she could get caught.

    • one hell of a plot twist.

He obviously thinks you've taken his "spot"… especially if they have 6 cars to park.

Honestly, he sounds feral. I'd park much further down the street away from him "space" because I can guarantee that the pain of engaging with him will be worse than the pain of walking a bit further to the car. Even if you catch him on video…you won't get a cent of compensation out if him and justice will be bittersweet as he will just up the visciousness of attack.

    • -1

Agreed - even if you get evidence whats the best case scenario the cops charge him and you get reimbursed? That will be alot of time and effort. Worst case is you'll just get hit again without any/clear evidence and you'll be more out of pocket.

Yes, but "Revenge is like the sweetest joy…".

    • +4

      This.
Given that the police are useless when it comes to these sorts of things, it ultimately becomes a game of chicken where the most crazy one wins. If that's not you, then sadly the best thing to do is stay away from the nutcase. If however you think you're a bigger nutcase, then there's always retaliation. For example those "vandals" might pay a visit to all 6 of the cars that park out the front of his house…

Also worth mentioning that even if you think you're crazier, if you have kids or especially an outside pet I'd still strongly advise against escalation. You could bring a whole world of hurt onto your family, not just your property.

        • Unless whole family is crazy, even the pet goldfish foams at the mouth at unidentified visitors.

Let him park his car there and slash his tyres, when he runs around asking who did it you can say "oh must be the druggos around here" with a smug look on your face.

A tyre for a tyre only ends up making the whole world… confined?

      • +2

        … tireless.

        Flat

  • Im afraid your going to have to re-purpose one of these bad boys to work with a knife attack

    Iron Curtain

Until they develop slash proof tyres, its the only solution.

  • You need to get revenge. I would suggest vandalizing the outside of their home with spray paint. Some Nazi swastika's ought to do it, or write "Pedophile lives here".

    • How about on their lawn; two logs attached in perpendicular angles on fire while wearing a milk coloured hoodie and chanting backwards: harvey norman is glorious?

Nothing annoys me more when your neighbor parks in front of your house when they have room in front of their own house. I'm building at the moment and this one ahole sometimes parks in front of my house and leaves it there all day and I have to and bring materials and tools from across the street.

    • Street in front of your house is public property. Nothing wrong with the neighbors parking there.

    • Yeah it's annoying but you aren't entitled to that space. If it matters so much park there first.

    • Should have bought that house in the rich people area where everyone is civic minded and the roads are wide and houses have more street frontage.

      • people do not have to be rich to be civilised and considerate to other neighbours.

but wide frontage houses in decent suburbs tend not to have this parking issue.

in fact in my previous house (10km of brisbane cbs) with 18m frontage (shallow block though, 607m sq), i can count with fingers of one hand the number of times a year a car would park in front of my house, excluding when my own guests visited me.

people do not have to be rich to be civilised and considerate to other neighbours.

They don't but they are far more likely. People don't become rich because of some Hollywood villian-esque greed driven mentality. Rich people, especially those who made their own wealth are rich because they are able to create win-win scenarios. This entails a high level of personal responsibility and thoroughly considered actions.

  • why not parked in your own garage? safer. secured. protected from hail storm and taifun.

  • how about…. you/your friend park the car again in the same spot, this time you/your friend sleep in the car with camera connecting to powerbank (take fews), and start recording.
don't confront the guy, just record the action - then submit to popo ^_^

OP you really need to install this. Combined with motion sensors, no stoopid hooman or puny insect will come close. Guaranteed or your money back! And at least you get a free BBQ.

  • Invite the police to park an unmarked squadcar on the spot with cameras??
    Barring that, i have nfi.

  • Imagine investing $1000s of dollars in hi-tech surveillance equipment with 360 degree monitoring and facial recognition. You'd be hopeful of getting your tires slashed :)

  • Just had a replacement on my car tyre with a 2" long nail puncture..Not sure if its sabotage, the mechanic says it could be from the road.

-_- who actually throws nails on the road anyway, so irresponsible.

    • +1

When I worked in a shifty suburb, I had 5 tires changed in 9 months from all manner of nails, screws and steel flashings. I was always parked in enclosed parking and can confirm it wasn't sabotage. No particular large scale construction. Just an average drive.

Also lost a side mirror from whole trash bag being tossed out an apartment onto my moving vehicle.

      • ….trash bag tossed out an apartment? That is crazy.
