Need Advice - Getting Samsung Galaxy Note 9 from Optus

I am on a 24 months plan with them and it's just at 12 months mark so I can recontact by giving my phone back and getting on a new 24 months plan. I haven't had any issues with Optus (other than initial signup drama) so happy to stay with them.

I am looking at the 512gb Note 9 on $105 plan and $10 for the phone. Total will be $115 per month. I will get 200gb data and unlimited calls etc.

Couple of questions I have are:

  • is there of a better or another deal I could get for this phone from Optus.
  • am I able to negotiate with Optus when recontracting to get better deal? I spoke with one store and he told me they won't.

Cheers

  • Optus live chat would be the best bet for a deal.
Say you are thinking of leaving in 12 months and you wish you could leave sooner or something and they might give you a good deal.

    outright > plan

Not many people want to sink $1000+ on a phone outright. Paying it off over 24 months is a better option for those not on large salaries.

What your paying for the phone is abit misleading, find the price for the identical plan without a phone at all, then take the difference add the $10 and thats what you are really paying for the phone. If that ends up being cheaper than buying it outright, then you should consider it, but i would wait for deals with unlimited data for the price you are being quoted.

  • Thanks for the reply guys. I was thinking about buying it outright but don't want to spend $1700 at once. I am currently paying $100 a month plus a cheap plan for my wife linked to my plan for data sharing. The way I am thinking is that I can pay extra $15 a month and get the new phone and also go from 30gb data a month to 200gb. I will be pretty much upgrading every year so I don't mind giving the old phone back every 12 months.

I was just hoping they would be willing to do a better deal for an existing customer.

Hang on, you actually return the phone?

He is probably on a lease plan. In my opinion, lease plans are a total rip off. You can probably sell the phone for more then what you "save" from a lease plan.

  • My advice (because this is what I'm doing), is to hold out for a month or two and wait for a better Optus deal. I've already bought my case and tempered glass for the note 9 and I'm just waiting till November.

At the moment, the value of the plans is actually worse than the initial preorder and release plans that were available.

  • Is the HN deal still avialable to regional customers. $84 for 200gb

  • NONONO from what you said… A LEASE PHONE? that is very bad for your buck. Ask any one people will say NO to a lease plan. its just not really good.
