Advice on Computer Build Please

I was going to just buy pre-bulit but I've been swayed! The system will be for my turning 12 yo gamer-girl who has saved a lot herself, she also wants to use it for VR in the future.

We need a monitor, we're right for mouse and keyboard. So monitor suggestions would be nice too.

Pinched this from Bappy on a recent deal post, to use as a starting point for advice from the resident experts:

CPU - Ryzen 7 1700 $260
MB - Asrock AB350 Pro4(umart.com.au) $109
GPU - RX570 $233 or 1060 6GB(umart.com.au) $369

RAM - GSkill 8GB DDR4 3000 2x4GB(umart.com.au) $140
PSU - Antec HCG 520W(msy.com.au) $90
Case - Thermaltake Versa H17(umart.com.au)
OS - Buy CD Key $15 (Who wants to pay RRP for OS?)
SSD 240GB $65

$912 with RX570
$1048 with GTX1060

I was hoping to stay at around $1000 given we need a monitor too. Am I missing anything?

Thanks!

Maybe change to a single 8GB RAM to make it easier to upgrade later?

    Rx570 at 200 on ebay

  • I would get a better PSU

    • Seconded. You want a good PSU because quite literally everything is plugged into it, and if it dies, so do everything else. And on top of that, you'd want at least a semi-modular if not fully modular PSU if you're building yourself, as it makes the process much much easier.

        +1 Coolermaster MWE 80+ Gold Fully Modular 650W/750W $125/$135 @ MSY.

    • Any suggestions? Or brands?

^^ the comment right above yours :)

  • A bit over at $1150 https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/8G7P7W
or if must be $1000 https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/Lvgsvn

    Would recommend spending the extra

Would personally go for a ryzen 5 2600/1600 with a RX 580 8gb. Run with the ryzen GPU to use freesync with a monitor. Those come way cheaper than Gsync.

Make sure the mobo has 4 slots and go 2x4.

Make sure to have at least 500gb of storage. 240 will go by fast. Either a 500gb SSD or 240 ssd + 1tb hdd. Both should come to roughly the same price.

Edit: Though I just saw you said you wanted it approx 1k. Should be about the same as yours if you stick with the 240 ssd than grab a hdd later.

  • +1 for the R5 1600

  • Ok, updated - howzit looking? I'm running out of time (b'day is 27/9!) but will be able to shop around in Melbourne to get the parts Monday. So Scorptec or MSY will be my go-tos probably.

    CPU - Ryzen 5 1600 $209 Scorptec

    MB - Asrock AB350 Pro4(umart.com.au) $109

GPU - RX580 (ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 580 TOP Edition, 8GB $379 (Scorptec) or this one MSI Radeon RX 580 Armor OC, 8GB $399??)

    RAM - G.Skill Value 8GB (1x 8GB), PC4-19200 (2400MHz) DDR4, CL1 $105 (this okay?)

    PSU - Coolermaster MWE 80+ Gold Fully Modular 650W $125 @ MSY.

Case - dunno yet about $70?

    OS - CD Key $15

    SSD 240GB $65

  • Coolermaster MWE 80+ Gold Fully Modular 650W/750W $125/$135 @ MSY VS Corsair - TXM Gold 550W(au.pcpartpicker.com)/650W(au.pcpartpicker.com) 80+ Gold $109/$129

    Thoughts?
