Not much information at this stage, the website only says;

"Returning for the 6th year, Shop Small is a movement that encourages Card Members in your neighbourhood to support local businesses.

In 2017 Shop Small had a huge impact for small businesses with 1.01 Million Amex Card Members spending over $675 Million in November at small businesses. Let's make it even bigger in 2018."

    On a side note, anyone update the app and then have trouble connecting?

    My Amex app says the system is down at the moment, that may mean I have the wrong password though.

    Time to load up on discounted quilton toilet paper!
    Step 1: find a pharmacy on the list. Plenty of amcals last year had the 10 pack for $5
    Step 2: see if they stock quilton
    Step 3: buy 4 packs for $20.

    It's not going to the be same price as the epic Woolworths deal 3 years ago, but close enough.

    If you redeem your points for statement credit, do it on ShopSmall purchases.
    (Yeah, you can probably get a better rate redeeming them for travel, but for the non high flyers who have basic free Amex cards, it's slightly better.) You get $9.63 for every 1k points if you redeem them against ShopSmall purchases but only $7.41 normally. I've been saving up my points since late last year!

      Sorry I'm new to this but what do you mean by redeem points for statement credit? Is that using points to pay the credit card bill?

        Yes. The button says "Use points for charges". Then you have to choose from a list of "Eligible Purchases". If you go there now, they'll all be $7.41 for 1000 points but once a few ShopSmall purchases have registered, you'll be able to pay those off at the better rate. (So you need to spend a fair bit on ShopSmall before you can redeem your points.)

          thanks for the explanation. i usually spend the max needed to get cash backs on my five cards so should be alright.

          ps.
          just saw i got email from amex about using this method for the recent vogue purchases which will be 30% higher rate than normal. might get on this early.
