Mobile Broadband Vs BYO Mobile Phone Sim Plan?

Hi all,

due to work, would need to have internet access from my laptop. after checking out those mobile broadband plans, none of them is appealing. i'm thinking maybe get another BYO sim only plan and turn my iphone to a hotspot? There are lots of tempting BYO deals around.

is it a discounted performance to use iphone as a hotspot vs adapter?

cheers.

some providers, like Telstra (think VodaFone also say it), who offer large mobile phone data, specifically state that you can't use your phone as a hotspot..

On the contrary, Telstra explicitly states you can use it as a hotspot. I can't find anything one way or another from Vodafone (though their FUP is vague, as is typical of FUPs).

They do generally say you can't use the SIM in a non-phone device. So, hotspot from phone is fine but hotspot from dedicated mobile broadband device needs a mobile broadband SIM.

Optus had a 200 gb / $80 sim only or with ipad 6 gen. This did not have any restrictions on data sharing/ tethering.I use this as home broad band.
