How to get to 1 million Velocity points?

Hi all,
I have read stories of people accumlating 1 million frequent flyer points. Just compiling a list of how to get there and looking for more tips. Specifically targeting velocity points .
So far I have
Credit card sign up (currently have velocity high flyer card, soon amex explorer, maybe the ANZ adventure recently posted )
Bank of Queensland bank account ( give me velocity points on everyday saving )
Hyundai test drive ( 10k between me and my partner )
Virgin super ( though not the lowest fees, but i think for a short term 1 yr it is okay)
All spends on credit card
Car insurance ??

Anymore ways ?

Not going to use bp for petrol as they are typically more expensive in my area.
No flybuys points to velocity as I mostly shop at aldi.

Use the velocity shopping mall portal, works similar to cashrewards in that if you go via the velocity store link for example to Menulog then you get 2 velocity points for every $1 spent. There is a growing list of retailers.

    • Things is most of the time it is better to go through cash reward than velocity shopping mall

depends on the store, i personally would prefer 1 velocity point over 1% cash back, (especially on small transactions) which is all alot of stores offer.

You are seriously missing out with not doing Flybuys - even if you don't shop at coles for groceries you could be using it with fuel (coles express), eBay, the odd shop at kmart/target, liquorland, firstchoice, adidas, etc.
You are also missing out on the 1-3k points gift card bonus promos they hold every couple of weeks.
Flybuys also have regular promos (at least twice a year) where they will give 15-20% bonus extra points when transferring.

Yep I second this.. Keep an eye on the offers where if you spend $80 at Coles, you get bonus points, and then transfer them to Virgin. Also, I put everything on my BOM CC and pay it off at the end of the month

If you are getting cards which don't earn VFF points directly like the Amex Explorer or ANZ Adventure, make sure you hoard the points to transfer them across to Velocity when they have a transfer bonus on - usually about 2-3 per year, at about 20%.

Also is your partner getting credit cards in his/her name as well? Given sign up bonuses are where you will earn most of your points, this is a way to more or less double your 'earning'.

    • Good advice on the bonus transfer. Haven't heard of amex points bonus, but if it is true. will be a big boost
      Partner is still studying :(

To be honest, I wouldn’t try to accumulate such a large amount. You never know when the points will be devalued or something else happen. I would prefer to earn the points as fast as I can but also not hesitate to spend them sensibly when I need.

  • Start with one billion velocity points!

    …wait, wrong joke.

  • Good luck getting to a million points.

Can you offer some context on why you actually need them?

Technically, without flying so much, the best way would be the below:

    • you and your partner, scour for credit card offers, you should be able to get 2-3 credit cards per year and that alone may get you to 300-500K points
    • find an awesome credit card points offering per $ spent, then find somebody that you can do shopping for, e.g somebody who has a need to spend 10k a week on goods.
  • i shudder to think how much money you would have to spend to get a million points

  • Start a business where you pay for everything on a velocity-point earning credit card, including your ATO bills.

Else, keep churning those credit cards.

    • yeah business is the way to go especially if you can fly for interstate meetings or trade shows, get points for it all then claim it on your tax
