Sorry to say Queenstown is not a very budget friendly area…

don't forget to search Queenstown for similar threads.

Yeah I know, and to make matters worse a couple of group members think paying more means better experience..

      • Some people like making memories with their family and enjoying themselves pal. You won't be taking all your money with you when you leave this Earth but there's nothing stopping you from not partaking in any expensive experiences if you can't afford them.

Yeah, but with that mentality seems like you won't be leaving much behind either..
By the way thanks for adding value to the original post request.

      • If you sit down and plan your days out then you can achieve a mix of expensive and cheap activities. At the end of the day, activities such as the shotover jet are worth the money. The stunning settings mean you won't find better anywhere else in the world. So spend the money on a few of these expensive activities. Mountain biking, rafting etc are all great and not too expensive.

Then mix in some more time going and admiring the stunning location. Arrowtown is a nice drive and you can waste half a day walking around the town. The earnslaw is nice. Go up the cable car. Head to wanaka and cromwell. Drive up the skifields even just for the views and maybe do the luge. Find some walks to do, even if its just a 30 minute forest walk. NZ is a walking paradise and you need to get out of queenstown and soak up the place.

The pinot noir from the area is very good. The vineyards are in the Central Otago area (Clyde, Alexandria and Cromwell), which is a close drive from QT.

It's expensive, but tandem paragliding was an awesome experience.

  • You've got everything you need here so far.
Fergburger (and/or the bakery next door) and the Nevis bungee. Definitely worth it

nature - enjoy for free, explore on foot, available 24/7/365

  • Just came back from Christchurch, solo trip in a luxury motorhome around N.Z. Stayded in Queenstown for three nights and first thing I noticed was it was so damn expensive, be prepared to pay TOP $ for any attraction, they barely discount because there is just so much tourism if you walk away, there is a line around the corner so they really don't care.

Also book in advance. Some of the stuff was booked out for 2-3 days in advance.

  • No one mentioned skiing - must be snow somewhere - it's bloody cold all year round (kidding).

    Do this

Drive to Arrowtown, historic gold mining town. Great buildings, museum, pie shop, picnic down at the river. Day 1 covered.
Drive to Wanaka, they have puzzlingworld - great for kids, great scenic drive - stay for dinner. Day 2 covered.

I just did a trip to Queenstown and can give you a few ideas:

I found the single-handed best discount website to be BookMe, it has some amazing deals that are discounted up to 90%!

Some of the activities we did were:

    • KJet Jetboating
    • Ziptrek Ziplining
    • Skyline Gondola + 5 Luge Rides
    • Minus 5 Bar (Ice Bar)
    • Walking around Queeenstown Gardens (absolutely amazing)
    • SITE Trampoline in Frankton
    • Indoor Go Karting in Frankton

There was also heaps of other stuff to do, but we only had 5 days there.

If you have the entertainment book, I'd also recommend getting the $30 for 30 day one for queenstown, we got some good deals for BOGOF in town on fine dining which saved us quite a bit!

As another person said above, Fergburger is a must, their burgers are seriously incredible!

Use a no-fee card to get the best conversion rates, I used Macquarie and it was perfect!

Enjoy it, it's an amazing place :) Everything is really easy to walk to.

    • Great, thanks will keep in mind.

  • Do you like hiking? There're plenty of tracks in the area.

    • Thanks, surely someone will find it useful.

  • Have managed to use ideas from the thread to make bookings, and will update how we go.

Anyone has any tips to book this Glenorchy activity at Ozbargain price?
