I'm a little disappointed even the Hermes one is just stainless steel. No white gold, platinum, some super-niche alloy?

Jokes aside, "smartwatch" and "something basic" doesn't really compute. You want just basic functionality… you don't need a smartwatch.
He probably wants something with location tracking
Fair enough, but in-built GPS isn't a basic feature (imo?) - you generally only find that on more expensive models. Most cheaper/basic ones get their location data from the paired phone….. which if OP's daughter has one, there's no need for a separate smartwatch.
