So how do these revenue-raisers work?

Say I'm stuck half way through an intersection and speed up to get through safely before I get taxed for running a red light, do I get done for speeding instead?

Does the red-light camera only activate if I enter the intersection AFTER the light has turned red?

    Tax, tax, tax…….

(Never mind, here's how they work in NSW https://www.mynrma.com.au/cars-and-driving/driver-training-a… so I guess they work the same in QLD?)

    • They only go off if you cross the line when the light is red, if you're already in the intersection then you'd be ok and no need to speed up if you're already in the intersection then

      • They only go off if you cross the line when the light is red

It also doesn't differentiate between whether you go into the intersection yourself if you get rammed into the intersection by a semi trailer.

You shouldn't be entering an intersection if traffic is blocked, causing you to be stuck in the middle.

If the light turns red while you're in the middle of the intersection, that means you really had enough time to stop when the lights were yellow /orange.

So easy to just blame others.

If you're in the 'stuck' in the middle of an intersection, you will not receive a Red Light Camera fine as you've passed the sensors, nor will you receive a Speeding Infringement as you're stationary?! IMHO it's really not that hard to work out. I wish they had cameras to detect Morons On Mobiles! #MOM

Smash repairers will be happy. More rear-end accidents for them to fix.

That list that you've got there - it'll expand in no time.

  • The Bastards

  • none within brisbane ?

  • The one at Nerang Southport Road westbound intersecting with Currumburra/Olsen gets a good workout with those smashing the throttle on the amber.

Massive reduction in the road toll thanks to these… /s.

Welcome Bananalanders to something we had in NSW for years.

When you are travelling 60 in a 60 zone and see an amber light in front of you, what would you do? Would you slam on the brake or speed up to beat the red? The second choice is no longer available for free.

    • That would depend on the distance.

If you're approaching the lights, and the lights had been on green for a while (you should be looking ahead when driving, not just what's in front of you), assume it may turn amber soon. So lift your foot off accelerator, if it stays green, resume 60 speed. If it's amber, cross if you're really close to the line (the whole point of amber) , otherwise brake slowly.

      We've had them for over 10 years(at least near me)… As the post says… New… Locations…

That’s not what the title says or the first line says.

          'New Combined Red Light'

          New…

'The combined red light speed camera system was also returned to operation at the intersection of…'

          Hmmm…

          • @Micko179: "NEW LOCATIONS for combined red light"

            Hmmm…

Do people really care if they raise taxes off this? I’d rather the unsafe drivers put more towards the country than increasing taxes elsewhere. You never need to speed to avoid going through a red light, anyone who can’t drive without doing this needs serious lessons or their licence removed anyway. The more incompetent and reckless drivers they catch who do this the better

Pity this can’t get more than one upvote.

Won’t be long until we get a QLD poster asking how to get out if two fines after they sped through a red light.

  • Don't know for QLD, but in NSW.. they don't have the compulsory 3 warning signs before the speed camera… different legislation.. considered "safety cameras", thus only one sign right before the camera

    • come to Vic no signs and the poles are painted to make them harder to see, and the speed cameras re also in various types of cars a few years ago i saw one in a ute with witha wheelbarrow in the back

      • Up here they call them 'Stealth'

    • Yes… They'll sometimes have a sign after the camera hidden in the bushes or behind the car too. Doesn't bother me as I don't speed. I used to notify others of radar locations via the waze app but figured it was only helping the dipsh!t's around here to break the law so stopped.

  • I tried to put the link in, but no option to?
