Does Anyone Own The Sony WH-1000XM3 Yet? Do Your Ears Get Warm While Wearing Them?

Any advice would be appreciated. I really want to get the new Sony noise cancelling headphones but I owned the 1000 XM2 and my ears would get so warm after 20 minutes that it was uncomfortable to wear, and if they haven't fixed that yet then I might have to go the Bose despite having worse music quality.

I have the XM2's. I have heard about people getting warm ears but it never happened to me. Are you exercising while wearing them?

    • mine usually only get warm when I'm in a warm environment - i.e. heater on etc

    • I'll echo this, very happy XM2 owner with nearly daily use. No issue with overheating ears even on long plane flights.

    • Interesting, it seems it only affects some people. Definitely not exercising in them, it happens no matter the environment I'm in

This is not a defect to fix, its all depend on your ear size, how long you wearing for and how warm is the environment.
I get that in Bose but not Sony, so go figure.

  • According to rtings, the XM3 is 0.2 degrees cooler.

    • They also have less clamping Force, so that might help as well, but looking at the breathability After Pictures, they look pretty much the same.

  • I have owned the XM2 and agree that it can get quite warm, particularly in summer.

Over the weekend, I tested out the XM3 at my local electronics store. The XM3 is definitely more comfortable and cooler than the XM2 as the ear pads now sit around the ear rather than on it. I still feel that the Bose QC35ii has a slight edge over the XM3 comfortwise as the clamping force is lower.

However the improvement in comfort has been reason enough for me to sell my XM2 to buy the XM3.

    • sell my XM2 to buy the XM3.

How much are used XM2's going for? I might do that too if there's not too much of a loss. Still have the original packaging and all the accessories.

Sold mine on GumTree a week ago for $295. If you are going to sell them, I would suggest doing it sooner rather than later as the prices of the XM2 will continue to drop as more people learn about the XM3.

They are going for around $300-$330 on eBay. I think the XM3 will be under $400 in no time, so contemplating the upgrade myself.

        • Just bear in mind that if you sell it on eBay for $330, you will be paying just over $40 in eBay / Paypal fees whereas Gumtree is free.

  • I had this with my Sony MDR 1a's and after a few months I forgot about it. Do you still notice it in winter?

  • I have the XM3 as well as the XM2 and the XM3 is so much better in terms of the temperature around the ears and comfort. Feels airy and lighter

  • Picked some up for 250 and for that price I'm very happy with them. Not sure I'd ever pay the full rrp but they are comfortable and sound great, haven't really tested the noise cancelling yet tho

    • Where'd you get it for that price? Been looking for my first pair of NC headphones.

      • Mate works at JB and that's the staff price! Just shows how much the markup is on these things haha

        • Nice! Any idea if they're allowed to buy more than one? Need to find a mate that works at JB now.

  • Wondering if these headphones suffer from volume spikes with the PA in-flight announcement system
