Cordless Drill Kit Recommendations - Sub $500

Hi all,

Looking for some recommendations on cordless drill kits for home DIY, nothing too intensive. All i need are the cordless drill, impact driver, recipro saw and orbital sander. Would like to get all with a bare min of 2 batteries for sub $500.

Had a quick look and its looking like i'll just get the ozito power x 2 piece kit and get the skins for the saw and sander separetely

Any other suggestions?
Cheers

You won't find a pack across all the major brands that has that combination of tools.
So your way forward since the way to go.

  • You can generally get a cordless drill and impact driver together. Just check the torque rating on the drill, some can be pretty weak.
I'd buy the remaining skins separately.

    ryobi one.

The range of additional attachments makes it hard to pass up.

  • Ozito 5 piece pack $299 + reciprocating saw $55 + detail sander $40. =$394
    Or 3 piece pack $229 - light and power saw. + reciprocating saw $55 + detail sander $40 =$324

Specs are a low for the drill driver at 40 Nm but the impact is 175 Nm.
5 year warranty you could hardly go wrong. Under budget also comes with a 4 1/2" grinder in either pack

You can't beat Ryobi. Their $299 pack at $299 had 2 x 4mah batteries, a storgage cabinet, and blower. as well as the drill/impact driver. I have seen recipricating saws going on Amazon for $70. (I paid $129 for mine).

You may have to hunt around to see if they still have one.

    • I don't have the brushless Ryobi but my impact driver has been replace twice.

Once was a crapped out chuck. Second one was a burnt clutch.

I would say my use is DIY+.

Battery tools cost way more than 240v. You might be better off getting a corded sander and saw.

    • After using almost all cordless tools during a big renovation I’d say pay the extra if you’ve already got batteries. So much more convenient. A cordless recip saw also makes a good garden lopper with the right blade. Only things I have corded now are drop saw, big hammer drill, circ saw and a belt sander. Everything else is cordless and does a decent job even though it is ‘only’ Ryobi.

  • Have a look on ebay/gumtree/facebook marketplace for second.

I picked up a cordless makita drill with 4mAh battery for $35 from gumtree. Bought a charger off Aliexpress for $17. The drill has been fantastic. I'd put off buying a cordless drill until I saw this one and haven't looked back.

I’ve been very happy with Ryobi. It started with a drill and grew to around 15 skins now. Nothing has gone wrong with it and I’ve bought quite a few items second hand. I’ve done a full renovation, including moving walls with it and barely used a corded tool. The only thing I have had a problem with is a hammer drill with a dicky trigger, but it was second hand well used from a builder.

Time over again I might pick a slightly more premium range like makita Because Bunnings has exclusive rights to Ryobi, which means less bargains with warranty like other brands that are sold at competing shops.

  • I'm about to build a deck so I've been spreadsheeting drills and kits to see which ecosystem to get into. I've used my mates AEG's and they're awesome. (Milwaukee, AEG and Ryobi all owned by same parent company). We all live close by and share tools so I figured we could share skins and reduce overall costs for the lesser used tools if need be. I also have mates with Ryobi too.

It's looking like Ryobi will be where I go primarily because the list below in brushed versions would be
Ryobi $1081 and AEG $1771. (Diff of $690 / 63% more - I could replace most of my Ryobi with the money saved)
In the Brushless version of the kit below Ryobi would be $1583 and AEG $2131 ( Diff of $548 / 35% more) Some skins only avail in brushed so not completely brushless.

Both have 6yr warranty / 3yr battery if registered on their site. Batteries are fairly consistent on a $/AH for either.

My happy place kit built up over time would consist of the following.

2 Drills (Drill/Impact) -Ideally get the kits which include batteries.
    Jigsaw
    Grinder
    Circular Saw
    Reciprocating saw
    Router
    Belt Sander
    Planer

** Note don't buy those 9/11 piece type mega kits, they're filled with fluff like torches and radios etc which you can get better items elsewhere.
The drill combos are the exception due to the double battery inclusions.
I'll probably buy the brushless version of the impact driver and drill as they'd be constant use items.
(Realistically I'd borrow my mates SDS drill if I was drilling into concrete)

I used many other brands and they're awesome but I didn't include them as they're way more expensive. Having said that, my hand me down 6yrs+ Bosch blue 18v is still an awesome drill. Even the three old 1.3aH batteries hold up as well as my brothers brand new 1.3aH Ryobi.

So my recommendation for you would be
    $249 https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-2-piece-core-kit_p… (Includes 2x 2.5aH batteries)
    $99 https://www.bunnings.com.au/search/products?q=ryobi%2018v%20…
$89 https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-random-orbital-san… (Not sure about your projects but I'd get a belt sander over an orbital)

Total $437 Spend the rest on an additional battery.

    Happy drilling !

Edit: IF you want an awesome drill get this one and buy a $99 impact driver skin.
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-brushless-hammer-d…
It has almost double the torque, higher RPM.
Would cost $89 more so total of $526
