WOMEN: Do you know if you have DENSE BREASTS? Knowing could help Save or Extend your Life

Dense Breasts come from a Woman's Genes & have Nothing to do w/ Looks, Shape, Size, etc.

If a woman Has DENSE BREASTS:

  • women weren't being told that they have Dense Breast, even though:
  • tumors are likely Not to show up on "traditional" Mammograms
  • tumors are More Likely (the risk of Breast Cancer is higher)
  • the woman needs to begin her Annual Breast Scans at Age 40 (not 50)
  • a Different type of Scanning is needed (ie, instead of "normal" Mammogram)
Ultrasound? (you'll find out for sure when you Fact-Check this post. ;-)

In Canada, women have organized to Make Health Care systems Tell Them,
whether or not they have Dense Breasts. I don't know what we do in AU.

Women, please tell us - in a Comment below - what your GP or breast scanning clinic, etc. does (Do they Inform you that you have Dense Breasts, in time?)

The GOOD NEWS is: There's a new "Molecular Breast Imaging" (MBI) method that finds any tumors, that a woman with Dense Breast may have EARLIER

And… the breast does Not need to be squeezed (as it does for a mammogram)!

And… it's safer than MRI, etc. (Again,Fact-check all this… :-)

Don't believe me, I'm just the messenger, & I am Not an expert…

(I'm someone, whose Mum died of Breast Cancer, and I don't want other
women to miss opportunities to find any tumors Earlier than Mum did.)

DO Fact-Check this post… and…

IF / WHEN you find it's TRUE, SPREAD THE WORD to other women.

To find out whether you have Dense Breast:

  1. ask your GP

(in Canada, it's on the Breast Scan report, but that usually starts for women aged 50 & up, so get an early scan - at Age 40 - to find out if you have Dense Breast)

Sources of Info (places to Begin your Fact-Checking "due diligence" research):

  1. TED-talk: from TEDxWomen (2011) by "Dr Deborah Rhodes" 21 min. long

  2. CBC Radio's show: "White Coat, Black Art"
program: "The Hidden Dangers of Dense Breasts" (14th Sep 2018) 27 min.

Use app "CBC Radio" to access the Show… The program title can be found in the show's list of podcasts)

(Or… Search CBC.CA for the above show-name and/or program-title.)

Be Healthy!

Hey, can Men get Breast Cancer?!?

Comments

  • +8

Did you copy and past this from Facebook or something? What is with the sensationalising and random caps??

    • +1

And I want to know what’s the story with the 4th poll option… why was that even added? While men are also susceptible to breat cancer, I don’t know how this last poll option even fits into the above commentary.

      • Men can get breast cancer. "breast" cancer is usually abnormal normal cells that are fed by certain hormones e.g progesterone, estrogen, etc or the protein HER-2. Women are more susceptible to breast cancer due to higher levels of progesterone and estrogen. There are also genetic/hereditary factors as well. There are other factors as well, however hormones are the key. Hence modern treatments seek to block the producers/receptors for the hormones.

        • While I agree with what you are saying, but I am more interested in why OP decided to add it as a poll option. What relevance does it have to what was discussed in their post?

    • We don't use Facebook… so, No.

Some folks' Emphasizing (eg, for those who scan, rather than read, text) is Other folks' "Sensationalising"

(Canadian Women formed an organization to help make sure other women will know the implications of Dense Breast & what to do if they have 'em.)

AU has other indicators of Stupidity: Eg, BANNING Nuclear Energy use here,
to it doesn't surprise me when I see Vaccer-like skepticism here.

(Meanwhile France happily continues to sell its excess Nuclear power to Germany, who needs it after shutting ~half of its Nuclear Power stations,
after Fukushima. Thinking people call that a "Knee-Jerk Reaction")

Vaccers fear that Vaccinating kids against, eg, Measles can cause, eg, Autism, while folks who monitor Measles outbreaks know "it just ain't so" ;~)

If you haven't taken the time to hear or view the (listed) media programs, I won't debate with you; if you had, you'd be letting any women in your social circle of the issue, & inviting them to do the same.

All these years when women have been talking about dense boobs I thought they were talking about their partners.

I'm happy to help women out here as I am part of the FBI (Federal Breast Inspectors)

    • I was just going to write this LOL

  • +2

Please use MS paint to assist with post?

  • And … the breast does Not need to be squeezed

well where's the fun in that???

on a serious note, this was covered by health report a while back http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/healthreport/de…

    • So, look at the Poll results: at the moment: just now, 12 are skeptical,
even after the Jan 2017 Health Report, which you cite.

Not every1 accesses ABC's "Health Reports" etc.

(An aside: We stopped watching, after Dr Swan announced, on-are (some years ago now), that he would Never again cover such Fraud in Australian medical R&D labs, ie, after one (1) case, that he Did cover - involving a(n Asian?) whistle-blower - Failed to lead to any change, charges or consequences for Sr.Researcher responsible for the fraud. Not impressed by Dr "quitter" Swan)

Meanwhile, CBC's & DW's (and, likely, BBC's, etc.) coverage of such Fraud embarrassments continue to be investigated by their jouno's, and covered in on-air programs. (DW, BBC & CBC have much better reports & coverage, IMO. Eg:

What Swan's Health Report" show/article calls a "Dilemma" CBC's "White Coat, Black Art" show calls "Hidden Danger."

And… Dr Rhodes (the TEDxWomen speaker) quantifies the tumors that get missed (before improvements in 1st scanning age & type of scanner used) & includes details of an innovative, FDA-approved MBI machine, so women can press politicians & their doctors to make it available here (if it's not already here; in fairness, her talk was given or released in 2011).

      Thanks for the link.

    • a segment in the following week also touches on the topic a bit as well http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/healthreport/ca…

it is just one possible risk factor. this useful chart lists other lifestyle risk factors

    What a nonsense post.
So much writing, and the term "dense breast" is used 12 times but the significance isn't clearly explained.
Is it that women with this symptom are more likely to have breast cancer? Is it that doctors simply do not check for this? (Hard to believe)

    • View Dr Rhodes' TEDxWomen talk for a definition, as well as sample images, for 25%, 50%, 75% & 100% Dense Breasts. She gives the best intro that I've seen, so far.

      No Reading Required. ;~)

Note: It was a Woman Doctor who made this an issue & worked with a Nuclear Physicist, et al. to develop the safer, more effective & convenient Molecular Breast Imaging (MBI) machine.

      "Cancer is Serious BUSINESS"

Some unethical doctors will lose money if / when more women become aware of breast tumors, when they are very small.

…just as some doctors prescribe more med's, eg, from particular makers, after receiving "perks" (trips to conferences; a paid staff member for their office, etc.).

If I were a woman, I'd want a doctor like Dr Rhodes… or an ethical female doctor, at least. Of course, it's No Guarantee, but it could help reduce the odds of, eg, unnecessary surgery, etc.

Turns out is a thing. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/breast-cancer/screening-tests-…

Women who have dense breast tissue seem to have a slightly higher risk of breast cancer compared to women with less dense breast tissue. It’s unclear at this time why dense breast tissue is linked to breast cancer risk.

Breast density is seen only on mammograms. Some women think that because their breasts are firm, they are dense. But breast density isn’t based on how your breasts feel. It’s not related to breast size or firmness.

Your breasts will be seen as dense if you have a lot of fibrous or glandular tissue and not much fat in the breasts.

    • I'm no sciencemagician but wouldn't the higher risk just be a numbers game? More density = more tissue = more chances for cell replication to go wrong?

    • Did that article mention the Molecular Breast Imaging (MBI) machine?

Or… that women w/ Dense Breasts need to start their scans at age 40 (not wait til they are 50)?

Or… that the traditional Mammogram scanner isn't the best for them?

(Ultrasound is mentioned in the CBC program; MBI scan is suggested - when an MBI machine is / becomes available.)

  • "Dense breasts".. that can be my new excuse for being overweight.
But then again, if I wasnt overweight I wouldn't have man-boobs in the first place.

    • Dunno… Neither program seemed to answer the obvious next Q:

      • Can men get Breast Cancer?

So, go look it up, & let us know the URL links, eh? ;-)

    • I'm going off an episode of Archer here, but I think men can get breast cancer.

  • Younger women (e.g teens to 30s) tend to have ‘denser breasts’ (i.e. more mammary glandular tissue), however, with age, this gets replaced with fatty tissue (i.e. less dense tissue), which is easily evident on mammography. That’s why breast surgeons and radiologists particularly prefer interpreting mammograms of older women (with fattier breast tissue) as tumours are often more discernible.

Women automatically get invited to breastscreen at age 50, and may be referred for earlier imaging and assessment (i.e. age 40 or earlier) if there is a relevant family history of breast or ovarian cancer. I don’t think MORE imaging is going to be useful, particularly if it is unclear what to do for abnormal but benign-looking findings.

    • Adding to your list… one more Good Reason for a woman starting her breast-scans (of the right type) at age 40… is that she has Dense Breast.

It's Not just More scans… its Ultrasound OR (if / when the newer machine is available) MBI scans, beginning at age 40, that's needed.

DENSE refers to color from a particular type of scanner (ie, on a breast-scan image, from Mammogram, Ultrasound, or newest: MBI scan).

Make sure we get MBI machines ASAP in Oz… if we don't already have 'em,
'cause ~40% of [Canadian] women have Dense Breasts (as determined by their genes).
