  • Is it more cost efficient to have individual switches?

    • Not really sure about this. I needed one with the USB port (for Xiaomi wifi repeater), but bought two 😊

    • Yes providing you don't always use everything that's plugged in at once.

You can never ever have enough powerboards!

    • +2

So true! I've got a box of them out in the garage along with a bunch of different cables.
All there for those random times when I do need them!

    • +1

Probably because builders and electrcians always set up not enough power points in a room, even place to some tricky positions.
I do have some in my house

      • Power points are never enough.
If you put TV or PC it will add additional requirements for power points, always.

I have one of these and wished I had bought an 8 outlet one. lol

    • Buy another 2 * 6 outlet for the price of one 8 outlet ($42 @Officeworks)😉

    650 Joules of surge protection

shame can't get the Dick Smith ones anymore 1675 Joules
    https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/3-pack-dick-smith-surge-…

    .

    • yeh the protection on the belkin is very poor compared to previous models which were at least 4x more. What happened? why did newer models get reduced so much? For example the Belkin PureAV Isolators had 4476 Joules protection.

      • Trying to figure out why you'd even want a higher number…. Isn't it supposed to protect from a surge, so anything over "normal" would be fine?

        • If so, why not just pickup sub $10 boards? For example this around $11 and has 150J surge protection - https://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-4-outlet-surge-protected-pow… or this for $8: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/6-outlet-surge-protected-po…

On the other side you have boards like this which I know a few well known Australian data-centers use (this one has 6080 Joules), thing is it cost $300: https://www.thortechnologies.com.au/product/smartboard-8/

        • Heh, yeah. Is this another case of completely useless high numbers to impress naive folks such as myself?

        • +4

The joules rating is for how much of a surge it can handle. Let's say a surge of 5000 joules comes through. A plain powerboard will let the entire 5000 joules through. A surge protector with a joules rating of say 200 would block a tiny bit before it fried and let the rest through. One with a 6000 joules rating would block the entire surge, no harm done to your equipment.

None would protect from a direct lightning strike, but if it struck a couple houses down a good surge protector could make a difference.

          • @josetann: That makes a bit more sense.. I was thinking that anything over would just short the device itself, not switch to bypass mode.

got it price matched at Bunnings just now. Careful as MSY shows very low stock.

  • +3

As a seller of USB powerboards ourselves, this is definitely a steal at $19, even better if you can get it price matched at a local Buntings.

  • tried to buy online, or pick up from MSY, cannot do it… guess it is out of stock everywhere, unless if you stop by and check with the local MSY store.

  • great find op

purchased on of these for the mrs a year ago and it's still going strong

  • need a good deal for 8 outlet powerboard!

  • How do i know if I have too may devices connected to the one powerpoint?

    • +1

      It will shutdown.

    • It will shutdown.

This but you can also look at the device for the maximum input energy in watts and then add them together.

2400W is the maximum for one circuit in standard Australian residences unless otherwise informed.

Note that one circuit can provide power through multiple power points. You can find out which power points share the same circuit by switch all the circuits off except one at the meter box and then testing the power points.

  • Forget it, out of stock across all shops

    • Same same… local Bunnings would not price match due to “clearance/ex-demo” description fwiw

      • Need a browser extension on your phone for removing "clearance/ex-demo" type terms from webpages.

If someone needs a separate switch one, maybe the Huntkey is an alternative
    http://www.msy.com.au/ups-powerboard/19899-huntkey-sac607-6-…
    But cost $2 more :)
    Seems poor stock in NSW

    • Although MSY's page states dual 5V 2.4A ports, total USB power output is 12W (same output as this Belkin?).

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/362413797558

The Huntkey has 375J surge protection compared to the Belkin's 650J.

      • Ah, that would not be an option then
        375J is awful

        • This this the maximum surge power it protect against, or the trigger value?

    • Hopefully they go back in stock. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281765796524

      • Looks like these were back in stock as of 8/10/2018.

  • I have a couple. It’s massive.

To the OzBargainer in this photo: Let me know if you don't want your backside on OzB and I'll remove immediately :)

Just wanna say kudos to this fellow OzB'er who managed to get Bunnings to price beat this deal from MSY late in the day.

And more kudos for leaving some stock for another fellow OzB'er to purchase!

P.S. Sorry about the stalking but I got excited when I realized there was another OzB'er in the vicinity!

Hahaha. Glad that people were able to grab bargain.

  • OOS message gone from MSY website.

Back in low stock in VIC if anyone wants to try their luck…

  • 05/10/2018 just got a price match and bet by 10% at Bunnings. Ended up being $16.20.

  • I predict this will only be $17.90 at bunnings in a few days
