Leather Shoes for Someone Who Puts in Orthotics - What Are The Specific Lines/Models out There?

So I'm someone who needs to put orthotics into my shoes because of my flat feet.

Where can I find good tan/brown dress shoes for someone like myself?

  • I'm familiar with the Florsheim Comfortech line (I have had 3 pairs of Bligh shoes, which are the best shoes I've ever gotten, but they don't have it in brown). Tried all the others, they're no good.
  • Hush Puppies I'm interested in, but their shoes look quite chunky (which is why I like the Florsheim Comfortech line, comfort AND look slim enough.

Any recommendations appreciated, thank you.

Located in Sydney, budget $100-$250

Hush Puppies are rubbish. Florsheim is overpriced for what you get. Buy a shoe tree too

    • +1 for a shoe trees.

    • Does it have removable insoles?

Usually orthotics cause problems with shoes as the heel depth is insufficient and sometimes the shoes aren't wide enough to cover the orthotic.

I checked out the website, but couldn't find any information on that.

      • I tried removing the sole. Seems like it is glued in. But it's so thin you can fit whatever shoe insert you want.

  • Very interested in this!

I recently had to go through the same process with my old/new orthotics.

    I had two main processes:

1/ look online for shoes that had a removable innersole and try them on instore
2/ go to stores and try on whatever they had eg. Myer, Williams, Athlete's foot etc. regardless if they had removable innersoles or not

Things I was looking out for that might be different for you:
1/ Classic design or close enough, they didn't really have to be super dressy
    2/ Less than $200

Shoes I tried on that seemed to be good for my orthotics and feet (your mileage may vary):
1/ Hush Puppy Carey (from multiple places like Myer). This didn't have a removable innersole but was super comfortable and one of the cheapest at $149 RRP. Currently on sale at $99

2/ Ascent Contest 4E from The Athlete's foot. This had two removable innersoles, a thick one and a thin yellow one. Very comfortable, more comfortable than my sneakers. In the end I had to cut the thick innersoles to match my 3/4 orthotics. $189 RRP

I also tried the Hush Puppy Cales that had an innersole you could take out. I didn't like it as it was hurting my heel.

I tried several Florsheim shoes at the recommendation of my ex-podiatrist, but they were way too uncomfortable for me.

I saw the Ecco Helsinki brand at The Athlete's foot $199, but it seemed too bulky even for my tastes:

I was also thinking of trying the Doctor Comfort classic men's dress for $289 RRP as they are used for people with diabetic conditions at my local shoe store/pethordist and have removable innersoles. I only want to try them as they would be covered as orthopaedic shoes under my health care:

I also bought a shoe tree from Trimly (careful of the delivery fee):

    Hope that helps!

    • Hey mate,

Greatly appreciate your detailed reply, will check out all your recommendations!

      Cheers

Check out Bared Footwear. They are designed by a podiatrist and you can wear orthotics in them. Frankie4 are similar too

    • Will check them out, thanks!
