How to Get Purchase Gift Cards from Coles Using eGift Card?

I went to buy 5 x $100 Bunnings gift cards from Coles the other day using Coles egift card through the self checkout but when I went to pay an alert went off for the attendant saying it needs to be verified. The lady then informed me that I can't purchase gift cards with gift cards…

Is this usual practice? Is there anyway around this?

Just go another time and avoid the same attendant at the self-checkout.

I'm not sure why you were down-voted because this actually worked. I up-voted you by the way :P

Some ppl lurk here and do anything to prevent others getting good deals:)

Just like some staff(usually young guys or elder lady) stop you,I bet they know the method well.

You get more chance to be ignored by elder guys or young girls.

I was actually successful with a teenage guy who didn't give a crap and was cheerful. Second try was with a young girl who didn't even know how to enter egift cards and asked me to help her then thanked me for teaching her something new lol

It was indeed an older sour looking lady who stopped me at the self checkout on my first attempt the other day.

The checkouts will detect you are buying gift cards and trying to use a gift card to pay.
They updated their policy and as such their systems
You will face the same issue every time you try and buy them

    • That's what I thought. So I guess there's no way around it. Damn.

  • Is this new? I have had no issues before but it's been a few weeks.

If you search the forums it's been reported on and off. Depends which terminals have been updated or not.

Talk about Coles here.I think it still works.

  • Update: I went to a different Coles and bought some milk and grabbed a $100 Bunnings card. Bought with the Coles 4% off egift card through a manned terminal, not self check. Went through no worries.

I then had to go to another store which so happens to be next to a Coles so I gave it another go, this time I got $300 worth through a manned checkout again.

There was no Powerpass discount on the Ryobi mower I bought at Bunnings though which sucked.

No power garden/power tools that are considered for home use will ever have a Powerpass discount.

      • Yeah, that's what I figured. I hoped the edging cord would be at least. I'll just have to be happy with the $20 or so discount thanks to the Coles egift cards.

  • Hi all. Looked at the Flybuys site for the first time in a few years as i have a decent amount of points to convert and realised their gift card options are pretty slim now. Wanting some JB and Bunnings gift cards. Not sure if they ever did Bunnings but know they used to do JB. Whats the best way around this? See above people have random success. Any advice appreciated.

    • I have used the Coles egiftcard to purchase giftcards on 2 separate occasions in the last 6 weeks. I used a manned checkout with a young operator. I figure they are casuals and may not know the rules. Worked both times. The second time I purchased 6 gift cards.

      • Are those Egift cards from Flybuys or just ones you bought. Assume it makes no difference. Sounds like if you are lucky you can get by if you target the right check out person. Does it work with physical cards also? Do Flybuys issue egift cards or just physical gift cards?

        • I buy my Coles egiftcards from Suncorp at 5% off. I only use my flybuys to get $ off my shopping so cannot comment on their gift cards. You can check out their reward offers when you log in.

        • You can't use flybuys dollars to buy gift cards.

Source: tried with Google Play gift card before and failed

          • @kerfuffle: yeah was aware of that. Was only going to look at buying physical gift cards and using those. Just wanting to gauge peoples mileage on success in store of buying other gift cards with them. Sucks Flybuys removed JB gift cards. Was hoping to buy a tv.

  • anyone tried this lately? I need to buy $500 item, hopefully can get some sort of discount!
    Thanks.

    • I haven't recently but I've had no problems doing it at a self checkout myself since my original post. I'm going to do it later this week for $100.

      • Christmas time, does it still work?

        • It should not matter if its Christmas, the Coles system allows it and just depends on the attendant verifying. Some will others will not.

    • I bought a $100 itunes gift card today through a manned check out. The lady thought it wouldn't work, but she said to try anyway. It worked.
